Police said the officer was attempting to take a suspect into custody inside his unmarked vehicle. At some point, the female suspect stabbed the officer in the hand, according to police. Police say the officer then defended himself by shooting the woman, killing her.

Police said the officer fired his gun several times while inside his vehicle.

"All this occurred inside the vehicle. So we are talking close quarters. Any plain-clothes assignment is dangerous," said CPD spokesperson Rich Weiner.

This is CPDs wordsmithed version of events. The real world translation is that a plain clothes vice cop grabbed a woman off the street whom he believed to be a prostitute and stuffed her into his unmarked car. She resisted and stabbed his hand in an attempt to get away and he responded by shooting her to death at close range inside the vehicle. A horrifying series of events which raises questions about the legitimacy of this sort of policing and the danger it poses to the public. What say you?

First, did she know he was a police officer or did she think she was being kidnapped? Why didnt he cuff her?

There was a time where I would have expected more from someone with Master’s degree in Journalism from DePaul.

Could be self-defense, could be attacking a police officer, but the critical details are missing. What was the altercation about? Was it reasonable to assume that she knew it was a cop?

because it would have then been more difficult to **** her

The article is pretty skimpy on details. From what I understand, the deceased was wanted on an arrest warrant for misdemeanor soliciting.

How did she wind up in the undercover car with a knife? No female officer handy for a body search? Was she cuffed at all?

Why stab a cop for misdemeanor soliciting? Some things here don't quite add up so far.

Shouldn't have stabbed a police officer? I can't ever see that ending well.

I would go with Justabubba here, the cop could very well have been looking for a "freebie" and was not being nice about it

More to the point

"Working girls" get harassed by the cops all the time, they know better than to get violent with the cops. Something more was happening here than a standard arrest.

Don't stab a police officer. I don't feel any danger whatsoever.

Could be. But I'll wait for more info before assuming/embracing that possibility.

Somehow, I doubt that will be the official version of events. More likely the officer will assert that he was merely questioning her (thus no cuffs or call for backup) and she suddenly became violent and attacked him. With only one living (expert?) witness this homicide will likely never see a courtroom - he will be cleared of any criminal act by 'an internal investigation into the matter'.

Of course and being vice there would be no dash cam, or body cam to say otherwise.

Only way this goes anyway but as a justified shooting is if the vice cop was under investigation by IA

I bet it turns out his injury didnt even scratch the 3rd layer of skin... She was probably a witness to something. Its obvious she didnt know he was a cop and he was abusing his authority somehow.

If she was in the back seat how did she stab his hand? Was in he in the back seat with her? If he was up front then that means he slashed his own hand after he murdered her.

I say if she stabbed the cop she got what she deserved.

Obvious to who?? Do you have a different source with more information?

Maybe this working girl didn't knew better.

If he didn't identify himself, then it looks like a bad shoot.

Now, if she knew he was a cop? Then she got what she deserved.

Possible, but I expect the cop looking for a freebie is more likely

Not likely:

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Castleberry on Tuesday when she failed to appear for sentencing on a misdemeanor soliciting charge in Franklin County Municipal Court.

This is probably a case of a vice cop picking up a prostitute that was wanted by the courts, they knew each other, and the prostitute got violent.

Why she as not cuffed and why he had to shoot multiple shots and why he killed her likely are all questions with unsavory answers.

He might have been running her, owed him money and he showed up to collect.

I'll usually give cops the benefit of the doubt, until it comes to vice cops. Those ****ers are so easily corrupted. They don't fight real crime and they know it. It frustrates them, so they're easily turned.

That is also a thought I had. He may have been trying to keep her from outing him

Normally I would agree but what are the implications given the circumstances of this case? That women should just allow men in plain clothes to force them into unmarked vehicles just because he says he’s a cop?

Anyone care to answer how he got stabbed in the hand while he was in the front seat and she was in the backseat? Simple answer. Stabbed his own hand after he shot her.

And if he was sitting in the back seat with her that means he was trying to rape her.

Hmm... stabbing a police officer ends poorly for stabber. Sounds like a stupid person removed from the gene pool to me.
