A registered Democrat and Bernie Sanders supporter protesting a right-wing rally in Oregon earlier this month says he was viciously beaten by militant members of his own movement because he possessed a "fascist symbol" -- an American flag.
Paul Welch told The Oregonian/Oregon Live he took the flag with him when he went to Portland Aug. 4 to oppose a right-wing rally being held at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Though the American flag is more commonly associated with the conservative movement, Welch, an Oregon man who voted for Sanders during the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, said he wanted to "take it back."

How'd that work out?
He said two people dressed in black and covering their faces approached him and demanded he give them the “fascist symbol” he was carrying. When he refused, the Antifa duo tried to rip the flag from his hands.Another masked counter-protester then approached Welch and began striking him from behind with an unidentified weapon concealed in black fabric.
Welch, 38, was struck on the back of the head and collapsed to the ground.
“My bones turned to Jell-O and I just went down,” Welch recalled. “I remember thinking there was a very good chance that I could be beaten to death.”

As I've said, Antifa is just a group of thugs looking to beat up anyone who doesn't conform exactly to their definitions.

Wow, I've seen dancing on the graves of others to be a political hack, but never taken this low. I'd' say you should be ashamed of yourself, but that would require you to have the ability to understand why you should feel that way.

How is this different than what you did in your stupid OP? You're attempting to exploit an injured Bernie supporter in a desperate and illogical attempt to paint Anti-fascists as bad guys just because a couple of them made a mistake. Even someone like Batman had some collateral damage done in their attempts to fight for Justice. The more corrupt our politicians become and the more we let the powerful escape justice the more you can expect vigilantes like this to rise up. If you don't like it you should be focused on putting Trump and his henchmen in prison where they belong instead of letting him appoint corrupt justices and pardon Traitors.

I see you feel you are being generalized, but if you look at the OP, it says it's a "monster of the left", not a generalization of the entire left. The same could be said about the Proud Boys being a monster of the right. We all need to at least acknowledge our fringes...and, ideally, denounce them. The more bad stories that pile up re: Antifa, the easier that should be to do.

To me, the main point is that Trump has made the US Flag synonymous with fascism. After all, that's what this poor Bernie supporter was trying to fight against in the first place. Even he recognizes that the American flag is being turned into a symbol of hate. By his own admission, he was trying to take it back.

A fable or a story doesn't have to have actually happened to teach a lesson. The boy who cried wolf didn't exist either yet we still use the story to teach people why lying is bad. Jesus didn't exist either, but many of the proverbs attributed him can still contain pearls of wisdom.
 
Antifa completely discredits themselves with heinous acts like this. The group as a whole should resoundingly denounce violence and protest peacefully. No weapons, no masks, no physical aggressiveness. They would be so much better.

Anti-fa is being generalized. I am not a member myself nor do I plan to join in the near future, but I'd say they are infinitely more patriotic than any Trump supporter.

I will denounce these two members of Anti-fa for not being more careful. That is all. To attack anyone under the banner of anti-fascism would make as much sense as attacking anyone under the banner of America.

It will end badly for us. For years, the US has been the bully of the world, murdering millions, threatening untold numbers more, maintaining deployments of its military simultaneously in 150 countries. The US is now broke, with no hope of ever repaying its debts. Economic collapse is imminent. What happens to that bully and it's military when it can no longer pay its bills? It ain't gonna be pretty.

Using violence to silence people you disagree with is a fascist tactic and is directly in conflict with freedom of speech.

This is entirely absurd. I should not be surprised that you're trying to compare Tillman being killed accidentally by friendly fire during a war with Antifa people deliberately clubbing this guy on the back of the head for carrying the "fascist" American flag on American streets.
