WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A federal judge in Montana on Wednesday ordered the U.S. State Department to do a full environmental review of a revised route for the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline, a move that could delay the project and prove a setback for the Trump administration.

For more than a decade, environmentalists, tribal groups, and ranchers have fought the $8-billion, 1,180-mile (1,900-km) pipeline to carry heavy crude to Steele City in Nebraska from Canada’s oilsands in Alberta.
===================================================
I hope this pipeline dies a natural death. Leaks over the huge aquifer under Nebraska would be catastrophic for millions.

I hope so too.

Since when has the government cared about drinking water over profit? Pretty sure we learned that lesson in Flint.

Jobs, economic growth, access to fuel, terrible things! Who'd want all that?

There have to be better ways to create jobs than putting at risk the water supply of millions.

Gotta be.

If there's not, then this economy is more fragile than advertised.

You know, there are 2.4 million MILES of oil pipeline in America.

Bet you, nor anyone else hand wringing about this pipeline knew that.
The United States has the largest network of energy pipelines in the world, with more than 2.4 million miles of pipe.

The pipe line has been study for years. The Obama state dept approved the project.

Even Obama's State Department Knows Keystone XL Is Not An Environmental Hazard

Kowtowing to radical environmentalists, President Obama has consistently ignored his own State Department’s analysis in an effort to kill the Keystone XL pipeline. Over the past month, President Obama has openly posited concerns about Keystone construction, concerns that the State Department has analyzed and answered.

State Department Gives Long Overdue Approval to Keystone XL Pipeline

If you had a child when TransCanada first submitted its application to build the Keystone XL pipeline, he would be halfway through the first grade by now.

Seven years after TransCanada submitted its first permit application for the Keystone XL pipeline, the Trump administration has overcome the prevaricating defeat-by-delay strategy of the last administration.

Today, the State Department, relying on extensive reports completed under the Obama administration, approved a permit.

What more can be said after seven years of talking an otherwise mundane pipeline to death?

The amount of time and resources spent debating one pipeline is stunning. The State Department has published five environmental reviews, Congress has voted 23 times, and The Heritage Foundation has written well over 100 blogs, op-eds, and policy papers on the Keystone XL pipeline.

Democrats and Republicans alike have voted in favor of a permit—in fact, approving the pipeline was one of the first orders of business last Congress, only to be met by an Obama veto.

Obama’s own State Department concluded that the pipeline was environmentally safe and would not contribute in any significant manner to global warming.

Almost none of that oil will become fuel used in a car in this nation.

Keystone XL is about one thing and one thing only, TransCanada Corp getting more raw oil sands from Canada to ports in the Gulf of Mexico for export to Central and South American nations by getting a larger more direct route to Nebraska. The existing line will take it the rest of the way.

This has gotten so far out of hand that TransCanada, using provisions from NAFTA, has already tried to file suit against domestic landowners in US courts who did not willingly give up easement rights for this pipeline. And now the Federal Government is trying to push things through using the typical rhetoric "jobs and economic growth" that very little will be realized with this pipeline.

Landowners be damned, concerns over the environment be damned... this is all about appeasing a Canadian oil exporter.

Sure thing.

So, how do you move the oil ??

2.4 million miles of pipeline, without problems, this water thing is just a red herring.

And a supplemental study should back up your statement.

The US refineries would beg to differ.

How would you move the oil if not via pipeline ??

Since when has the government cared about drinking water over profit? Pretty sure we learned that lesson in Flint.

This is more than just drinking water. This area is dependent on water for center pivot irrigation for crops. Contaminated water = no food.

Jobs, economic growth, access to fuel, terrible things! Who'd want all that?

Temporary jobs during construction, fuel for export from Houston. And what economic growth? For the Canadian owners & the refinery operators in TX.

And a supplemental study should back up your statement.

As of 2014 Keystone XL has undergone five environmental reviews by the State Dept, all of which approved the pipeline.

Oh, and are they all over the huge aquifer under Nebraska? No? Then this was just the millionth stupidly dishonest diversion by you.

And if there is adequate evidence for another study, the judge will allow another study.

At best less than a third would be for domestic use of some sort, and even if refined still would by majority end up on a boat.

It is already being moved, Keystone XL changes the path and how much for part of that path.

Ahh, **** it. With Trump's Trade War, we have less of a need to produce food and crops. You just didn't see the genius of Trump's plan.
