Ottawa preparing response if Donald Trump follows through with U.S. auto tariffs threat

OTTAWA – With threats of devastating U.S. tariffs hanging over the auto sector, Canada’s economic development minister says Ottawa is considering every possible way it could respond if the Trump administration follows through on its warning.

Navdeep Bains said Plan A is to continue encouraging the U.S. to back away from the tariff threat, which industry has warned would inflict significant damage on both countries’ economies.

But just in case they are applied, Bains said Ottawa is considering “every conceivable option.”

“We’re taking nothing off the table at this stage,” Bains said in an interview. “We’re looking at every tool in our toolbox.”

COMMENT:-

Ridiculous!!!

Everybody knows that the Canadians are only posturing so that their SOCIALIST government can cling to the authority it has because Canada is a MONARCHY and not a republic like a real country is.

Besides, the US spends more on its military than Canada does to run the whole country so there is absolutely nothing whatsoever to stop **P*R*E*S*I*D*E*N*T** **T*R*U*M*P** from simply marching in and kicking the asses of those SOCIALIST so-called "Canadians" out of the United States of America if those so-called "Canadians" don't TAKE **P*R*E*S*I*D*E*N*T** **T*R*U*M*P** up on his incredibly generous off to let them continue to run their S***hole country any way they want to provided that they do what he tells them to do.

[Damn, I knew that I shouldn't have swiped this computer from the White House.]

My response would be to any tariffs on auto's

Slap equal ones on US made vehicles

Then change auto regulations and invite the various Chinese automakers to start selling in Canada. Watch Trump and Kudlow go ape ++++ at that

Why not toss in "We have determined that Canada has a vital national security interest in Potash, electricity, oil, and wood. Accordingly, unless agreements to the contrary are in place, no such materials may be exported from Canada unless the government of the recipient country pays a "National Defence and Continental Security Promotion" fee of 75% of the fair market value of the goods exported PRIOR to them being shipped. Agreements may be made by Order-In-Council.".

All but the electricity can be replaced on the open market, at higher costs.

But for Trump to see the chance of Chinese cars roaming the streets of Canada, when he is trying to break both Canada and China (among others) would raise a tweet storm in which Twitter has never seen before in the history of tweeting. A stable Genius he is don't you know

Indeed, but that Potash replacement is going to be a real problem.

Well, if the US car makers can't compete and have to shutter their factories, we can always exercise the "Right of Eminent Domain" and reclaim the "abandoned" property for the Crown - can't we?

I wouldn't do equal. Make it four thousand percent or worse to the point that the US can't sell one ****ing car in Canada. Enough of this ****. If congress won't rein this asshole in, then it's up to our former friends to make this ****ing stupid trade war fail.

Nah, that's just way too high.

However, make the exporter pay the tariff rather than the importer.
