Ohio Special Election Results: 12th Congressional District

What to watch: Voters in Ohio’s 12th District are choosing a replacement for Representative Pat Tiberi, a Republican who resigned to work for a business group. The candidates are Troy Balderson, a Republican endorsed last week by Mr. Trump, and Danny O’Connor, a Democrat.

The race is expected to be close, and both national parties are spending heavily. But whoever loses will get a rematch in the regularly scheduled election in just three months.

Hope they win. If The dem wins, given that Trump won this district by some huge number, it does not bode well for November. Still, that the vote is close even if he loses will still not bode well for Trump.

Why have a special election this close to the general election?Just

I'm looking at it right now. The Dem is ahead, but I expect the Republican to win this one.by about 5 points.

Wow. Didn't expect this. Balderson won, but by less than 1%. Republicans need to take notice of this. I knew the GOP would underperform, so figured a win by 5%. I was wrong. This is a district that Trump won by a huge margin. This vote is a referendum on Trump himself, and those 23 seats held in districts that Clinton won in 2016 will be gone come November. I think more than 35 seats are going to switch parties in the general. I still believe that the GOP is going to hold the Senate, but the result tonight spells troubling times for the House races. However, the so-called blue wave is not what it seems. Look at 2006. Look at 2010. The party in power almost always loses seats in an off-year election, and lots of them.

So here is my prediction - Dems get the House. Republicans keep the Senate. Gridlock, sweet gridlock.

I predict Trump will make this sound like the second coming of Christ for the republicans when it's really a referendum on what a lousy president he is.

And now you know why the republicans are so eager to purge the votes of those that probably are likely to vote democrat or make it harder for them to vote.
