Sen. Rand Paul called Monday for President Trump to revoke former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance, as he questioned whether the Obama-era spy boss was “monetizing” his access to sensitive information in his new role as a pundit.

“Is John Brennan monetizing his security clearance? Is John Brennan making millions of dollars divulging secrets to the mainstream media with his attacks on @realDonaldTrump?” Paul tweeted early Monday.

This is a master stroke on Paul's part. 1) It's a reversal of the Russia Collusion line. 2) The media can't ignore it. 3) It's entirely plausible. Brennan et al. probably are leaking to the news media a lot, possibly for money. Brennan has already accused Trump of treason; it's sort of ridiculous to continue to allow him in the building.

If I quit my job the first thing they'd do is take my key away. I don't see why it's any different for the intelligence "community".

Also, I ran across of factoid that may or may not be apropos. That is, Brennan used to be a Communist. More than that, he was a Stalinist. In 1976 he voted for Gus Hall, a Stalin supporter, well after the revelations of 10s of millions of Russians killed by Stalin in the purges had come out, even after the Gulag Archipelago had been published. That's not just youthful naivety, that's sort of like willfully voting for Satan. You don't grow out of that sort of character defect.

Boy the Russian handlers... err GOP are scared ****less. The fact that are accusing dissenters of monetizing access while their leader is bleeding the American tax payer weekly and his administration is the most corrupt in history and would make even Putin blush.... is mindboggling.

Rand Paul is a right wing nut job of the worst stripe. He is a perfect reverse barometer for so many things and is a walking, breathing living example as to why right libertarianism is a mental disease and not an ideology.

Does Rand Paul monetize his stances by screaming the loudest in the chambers? I'm asking for a friend.

Brennan has no business retaining his security clearance. I'm surprised as hell that he even has a security clearance.

Why is Trump running so SKEERED?

When you retire from the IC you get “read off”. At that point you lose access. All your usernames and passwords to secure systems are revoked and building access badges are taken back.

But your security clearances isn’t typically revoked. It has an expiration date. For example, I had 3 years left on my TS/SCI clearance when I retired from the military. So for those three years I had a clearance, but zero access. It is like having a CCW permit without a gun. One of the reasons for this is financial. Many people retiring or quitting jobs with clearances go on to other jobs that require clearances. And those investigations take lots of time and money so it isn’t financially prudent to cut clearances off before their expiration date unless the clearance holder has done something nefarious.

So again, having a security clearance without access is the same as not having a security clearance for all intents and purposes.I don’t see how he could be monetizing his security clearance without access.

Killed the hell out of that messenger. Now try commenting on the message.

You just don't like one of your right wing heroes being talked about like I did. Get used to it. Or not. Makes no difference to me either way as Paul is still how I described him.

This is simply an effort from Trump to attack his political enemies pure and simple. And it is beneath the dignity of that office and reminds one of the Nixon enemy list that helped lead to his own destruction.

The man is a total asshole. The only stroke he can have is a medical condition.

Brennan et al. probably are leaking to the news media a lot
Really? That is illegal and of course you have no proof, instead falling for the stupidity fed to you by right wing media.

Brennan has already accused Trump of treason
So dod many others, not undeservedly.

it's sort of ridiculous to continue to allow him in the building.
Which building?

If I quit my job the first thing they'd do is take my key away.
Stupid comparison only betraying how clueless you are on the topic.

I don't see why it's any different for the intelligence "community".
Clearly. It takes a bit of education on the matter.

That is, Brennan used to be a Communist.
Was he? Looks like you lack knowledge on this topic too.

Why is Trump running so SKEERED?

Because the heavy footsteps of the Mueller investigation are getting closer and closer to him and he darn well knows it.

Except Brennan actually is a communist and communist sympathizer. Unlike your subjective comments about Paul, mine are actual facts.

Paul Ryan says Trump is trolling.

Paul Ryan Says President Trump Is 'Trolling' Critics With Threats to Revoke Security Clearance

Lol. Who to believe? They're all liars.

From the sound of it, Rand Paul and Fox news are carrying the banner for Trump for political purposes. Rand Paul should be ashamed of himself

Yes he has, if he still consults or has input on active issues... it is standard practice and has been forever. Hell Clinton and Bush 1 and 2 probably have some sort of security clearance. Obama certainly does.

Back during the time I thought that I was a libertarian, I really liked Rand Paul's dad. Sorry to see that the apple which fell from that tree has gone soft from orange rot.

Because having clearance and having access are two very different things.

duh.

sure thing ... a commie under every bed and all that ... got it.

I once ordered a vegetarian meal on an airplane over forty years ago ... does that make me a vegetarian?

Same here, I was hired for an embassy position at state, I went through the whole processs, got the clearance, and then you wait for an opening, if one doesn't come up, after a certain amount of time you lose clearance, that happened to me twice....then I did it again, went through a really intense post 9/11 background check (and one by the Gardai in Ireland because I am a dual citizen), I figured the same thing would happen, so I bought my house, got a dog, etc...of course they came back to me telling me when and where to report for training in DC, but they don't tell you what country they are sending you to. At that point in my life, I felt I was too old and established to pick up everything and move. Now I am very glad not to be serving under this insane president.

Just go read about who Brennan worked for in the 70s and who that man supported publicly.

I am aware that when he was 21 years old he voted for Gus Hall for president ... in fact he informed Congress of that.

I ordered a vegetarian meal on an airplane some forty years ago. Does that make me a vegetarian?

Brennan no longer works for the government. He shouldn't have a security clearance.

Hell Clinton and Bush 1 and 2 probably have some sort of security clearance. Obama certainly does.

No, they don't. Even if they did, they don't have a need to know.

Brennan no longer works for the government. He shouldn't have a security clearance.
You have no clue how that works. Not working for the government is irrelevant.

No, they don't. Even if they did, they don't have a need to know.
Exactly, and none of them receive any briefings now which renders their security clearance moot, and Trump's attempt to remove it nothing but the tantrum of a vindictive little prick.

Just go read about who Brennan worked for in the 70s and who that man supported publicly.
Just go ahead and read what Trump stood for 40 years ago.
Do you have any meaningful or relevant thing to add about Brennan? Did he ever violate any provisions of his security clearance? Did he ever do anything that can be interpreted as damaging to the nation or you are just latching on to the stupidity fed to the Trump lemmings?
