Democrats want Trump interpreter to testify before Congress

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire, is calling on President Donald Trump's interpreter from his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to testify before Congress.

"I'm calling for a hearing with the U.S. interpreter who was present during President Trump's meeting with Putin to uncover what they discussed privately. This interpreter can help determine what @POTUS shared/promised Putin on our behalf," Shaheen tweeted Tuesday.

She isn't the only Democratic lawmaker calling for questioning the translator. Rep. Joe Kennedy of Massachusetts had called for the testimony in a series of tweets criticizing Trump on Monday.

"And that was only what we saw on live TV. @realDonaldTrump's translator should come before Congress and testify as to what was said privately immediately. If Republicans are as outraged as they claim, then issue the subpoena today. 2/2," Kennedy tweeted.

These democrats are unhinged.

These Democrats are unhinged.

Really? Wanting transparency at a time when we have a criminal president in office who has potentially been co-opted by the KGB? We're unhinged for that? Lol!

I'm pretty sure a presidential translator is covered under Executive Privilege.

On top of this there needs to be a full investigation into violations of the Emoluments Clause and the release of his tax returns. We need to get to the bottom of just what the hell is going on between him and Russia right now. Enough is enough.

Unhinged because they don't just go along with him and worship him at every turn?

Calling people criminals without being convicted of a crime is unhinged behavior...

If he was willing to betray the U.S. publicly one shudders to think what he did privately.

The cynic in me smells a set up. If the interpritor isn't full cooperative it will be spun as proof of a cover-up. If he answers all the questions it will get spun as potential national security threat. This person is going to be screwed in the **** agianst the wall approach taken in hopes of a gotcha moment.

Plus I would thunk this person has been debriefed on what was said already by the appropriate agencies

Unhinged in their suspicion.
Unhinged in their demand.

So unhinged that he occupies their minds. :lamo

As I said, unhinged.

Much as I'd love to see Trump go down,(and I don't mean Stormy).
Having a translator testify is a terrible idea!

And here I expected it to be someone making one of those jokes that's painfully funny because of just how true it is: Trump literally would need a translator to testify before congress. When he speaks on his own, he'll mean one thing for three days, another thing for one day, something half-way between the two for the next few months, and then it'll finally be back to the first meaning for a while.

(I mean, this is the guy who'll go ignore everything I said for the last two years, ignore the entire rest of my speech, and focus instead only on my claim that I meant "wouldn't" instead of "would". No, really guys, this is totally better than fighting about how "is" was conjugated in a specific question.

My take-away on what the subject turned out to be: I don't want to establish precedent where a president's interpreters are dragged into congress to testify about what was said. But, on the other hand, I think it's become completely obvious that if the Democrats take the high road on any given question, the GOP will take the low road when it helps score some points. So for perhaps the same reason they need to obstruct Trump SCOTUS nominees to death (in revenge and to make up for the refusal to allow a vote on Garland), maybe they need to take the low road first.

No point in always falling on your sword unless you're aiming for martyrdom.

How else are we going to know what Trump agreed to in private?

He's getting marching orders from the damn Kremlin...

Being a Neville Chaimberlain is also a terrible idea. Some purity progs and libs will never learn.

Thunk is not a word comrade. And no they don't have to be debriefed.

Probably true, but given that this one on one meeting should have never been allowed in the first place I'd say it's in the best interest of the American people to know what was discussed.

Not remotely. The evidence that has been made public so far is incontrovertible. Trump has easily met the criteria for multiple counts of Obstruction of Justice based only on his public statements and actions. If his public statements and actions are this damning I can only imagine what else he's guilty of that we don't know about yet.

Like I said; Unhinged.

Probably would have a bunch of slurps and gulps in his testimony ;)
