Special counsel Robert Mueller asks for immunity for five potential witnesses in Paul Manafort trial

Fair point.

But does Manaforte have the honour of Frankie "Five Angels" Pentangeli? We shall see. I say no.

Had to look that puppy up.

Had to look that puppy up.

It's a very powerful scene, if one understands the plotline and context.

And it stuck in my mind all these years, popping-out today when thinking of your comment in relation to Manaforte!

Edit: And what's missing from that clip, is the next scene where Pentangeli indeed slits his wrists in a bathtub, just as discussed with Tom Hagen. If you're not aware, in the YouTube scene above Pentangeli is being held in federal custody, where he will soon be testifying against Micheal Corleone.

Therefore, the Manaforte analogy!

Great character .... great film.

The Mueller Show is getting ready to hit the stage and it's going to be a bumpy ride

Could be, but I think a number of them are financial types.
Consider the bank fraud/money laundering charges

It must be pretty juicy.

Here is a copy of the actual court filing:

Manafort either flips or will spend the rest of his life in prison. His life, as he knows it, is toast.

His LIFE? He's being prosecuted for money laundering in(if I have followed this correctly) 2005.

I could, literally, walk over to my neighbor's house and beat him to within an inch of his life with a baseball bat and not do that kind of time.

Seriously... LIFE?!?!?! WTF kind of justice is that?

You better believe that it would be a virtual life sentence. One count of money laundering can get you 10 to 20 years and he is facing multiple counts. He's not a young man either.

He's over 70. Virtually any prison term is a life sentence...and if he fights it...he'll get a long one

I still find it interesting that mueller has yet to investigate the DNC or people of the clinton campaign for trying to use russian and Ukrainian
resources to get dirt on trump.

I mean if russian meddling was so important then people should be outraged. I find it interesting that they are not which is why
this is all so laughable.

their hypocrisy is so covered up and blinded by TDS they can't see the forest for the trees.

Perhaps Mueller is investigating those items also. Early on in the probe, it was suggested that might be happening.

The fact Manafort worked with the Podesta group might be where the charges against him originate.

I didn't realize he was that old. I was thinking he was more like 50. You are correct.

I guess you were right.

WASHINGTON DC – […] According to Tucker Carlson, speaking Thursday evening on his Fox News program, Mr. Mueller has offered immunity to Tony Podesta, founder of the Podesta Group and brother of former Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

Mr. Carlson cited “two sources” whom he did not name.

Both Mr. Manafort and the Podesta Group worked on a campaign named the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine, and most of the charges against Mr. Manafort relate to his work there and whether he laundered money for Russian oligarchs, worked as a foreign agent, disclosed his income and status, and related issues.

This is the over-reach of the Mueller investigation. Wonder if Hillary will also get immunity?

I'm sick and tired of the DOJ bureaucrats handing out immunity whilly nilly, seemingly only to Democrats.
(Nearly all subjects of the Hillary email investigation were given immunity - and they haven't even testified to anything, like WTF?)

Claiming that this isn't politically motivated? Politically biased? There's no credibility in claiming that anymore.

Yeah, right. We exactly how 'unpolitical' and 'unbiased' the FBI is when Strzok was before congress.

Mueller appears to be the same, and all the more reason to believe that Mueller is Obama's and Hillary clean up guy.

This entire investigation is a load of politically motived bull****, it's beyond obvious.

There's no trusting or believing either the DOJ or the FBI anymore, especially now that they've instituted a two-tiered justice system. **** that.

The last citation is most poignant. Mueller appeared to be poised to take down Tony Podesta for criminal charges, up until he and the DOJ give Podesta immunity.

Does this mean that there's a likely similar deal for Manafort? After all, wasn't it the same crime?

Oh I rather doubt it, and it is this difference in handling that makes the entire Mueller investigation appear to be tainted with political bias and tainted with implementing (continuing to implement) a two tiered legal system. One set of rules for political elites / Democrats, and quite another for everyone else.

And then some question why others have a distinct distrust of the DOJ and FBI? When it would appear to be well founded to be so.

Wake up people. Pay attention.

His investigatory value may have diminished over time, but I suspect he still has reasonable value as a government witness.

I'm wondering when Cohen will fold, if he already hasn't?

If not granted the witnesses would invoke the 5th.
Wonder who they are?
8 days till trial date.
Can this info ( the 5 identities)be sealed even during/after the trial?

One is Podesta, a Clinton, Inc insider who also ignored the foreign agents act. Podesta has to be immune from that same rarely enforced law to testify that Manafort broke that same uninforced law he did. The others are suspected to be mostly Clinton insiders who need cover.

I presume that is why it will be kept secret as long as possible.

... plotting in favor of a foreign government to pass their agenda while the public doesn't know is a little more serious for our safety than your ideas on assault with a deadly weapon.

That situation doesn't put our country in the hands of foreign nationals. Just you know, not all crimes are equal.
