Americans rank Barack Obama as best president of their lifetimes: Poll

Seems that they are doing some big dismantling over there.

Mostly stuff that is too broken to make repairing it economically or politically viable.

And we just received home some more bones of our veterans.

Actually what has been received is some boxes containing stuff that the Koreans claim are the remains of American servicemen. Once the five or six years required to complete the forensic investigations have been completed, any that are actually the remains of Americans will be buried and any that haven't been proven to be Americans will be sent back.

After all, the only people who were fighting in Korea were Americans and Koreans, so any remains that can't be proven to be American remains are "obviously" Korean remains - right?

It appears that Kim is ready to make his country great again.

Maybe he could start up some factories to produce election flags and banners for Mr. Trump's 2020 campaign.

Well Kim is tearing down a lot of stuff and he just recently sent more of our lost Soldiers Home indications look to be good.

Yes, with no outside verification, (which we had with Iran), so a terrible deal by Trump's own standards. And the last time his father sent home remains, they weren't even all human. Let's wait and see.

And he's building ICBMs as we speak.

Maybe? Who knows? I really don't think it matters any more. Trump gave him his place on the global stage. Now he is a nuclear power who can deal with the US as an equal. It doesn't matter that he is not an equal. He got his moment in the sun and now he can play that for all that it is worth.
I could be wrong. We should know one way or the other soon enough. So far, he hasn't given up anything of real value and we gave up military exercises.

A site he doesn't need and one he can't use. Big whoop. Lets wait and see how many of the remains are human before we celebrate the return of boxes of bones. We have played this game before.

Who knows? Our intel agencies know.

No he's NOT.

I understand that the official name is "Trans-Oceanic Mail And Telegram Orbiters".

Obviously that isn't the same thing as those horrible Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles that Mr. Trump got Mr. Kim to agree to stop building. And who cares if Mr. Kim throws a few TOMATOs?

PS - Did you see anywhere in the text of the agreement how long the DPRK would stop building ICBMs? I didn't.

Might I suggest that you actually read the polling data to see how the poll was conducted.

Just because you don't like the polling results that doesn't mean that the poll was improperly conducted.

I didn't say that I don't like the result. I'm suggesting that the poll was manipulated to get the desired result.

A response over a year later is generally considered to be "bumping".

I will repeat my earlier "Might I suggest that you actually read the polling data to see how the poll was conducted.".

From ABC News

Americans rank Barack Obama as best president of their lifetimes: Poll

A new Pew Research Center poll says more Americans rank former President Barack Obama higher than any other when asked which president has done the best job in their lifetimes.

Obama was named the best or second best president by 44 percent of Americans in the survey that came out Wednesday. Thirty-one percent ranked him as the best president in their lifetimes.

President Donald Trump comes in fourth after President Bill Clinton and President Ronald Reagan, with 19 percent of Americans ranking him as the best or second best in their lifetimes.

While 19 percent might seem low, 20 percent of Americans ranked Obama as the best or second best president in 2011, at a similar point in his first term and the last time Pew conducted this poll.

COMMENT:-

Naturally, since the pollsters didn't ask every single American (especially you) what there opinion was the results are completely invalid.

Right?

PS - An interesting analysis of the data has suggested that the increase in Mr. Trump's popularity amongst Republicans could potentially be due to the fact that Republicans who formerly supported Mr. Trump and who no longer do so are not "self-identifying" as Republicans right now.

How that would work is:

  1. Assume that there are 200 people 50% of whom "self-identify" as "X" and of those 100 60 support "Y". That means that "Y" has the support of 60% of those who "self-identify" as "X".
  2. Now assume that there are 200 people 40% of whom "self-identify" as "X" and of those 80 60 support "Y". That means that "Y" has the support of 75% of those who "self-identify" as "X".
  3. That means that the support for "Y" amongst those who "self-identify" as "X" has increased - even though there has been no actual change in the support for "Y" when you consider the entire 200 people.

In other articles Mr. Trump is loudly proclaiming that his support amongst Republicans is the highest that any President has ever had (aside from the fact that that simply isn't true) the question is "Is Mr. Trump merely the same sized frog in a smaller pond?".

PPS - The linked poll has some reasonably interesting demographic breakdowns of the data for those who are interested in doing more than skimming the surface.

If this is true, they must have polled very young people.

If this is true, they must have polled very young people.

Two points:

  1. The poll is over one year old, so it's hardly "breaking news" today; and
  2. if you had actually read the polling data to see how the poll was conducted you wouldn't be making such a silly statement.

I repeat my earlier "Might I suggest that you actually read the polling data to see how the poll was conducted." so that you can actually discuss this "old news" rationally.

If this is true, they must have polled very young people.

And therein lies the answer, peoples perception of the world starts when they were born. "Americans rank Barack Obama as best president of their lifetimes: Poll"

From the article in the OP:

Pew found that rankings changed by generation. More than 60 percent of millennials view Obama as the best or second best president of their lifetime and 46 percent name him as the best.

Older Americans, baby boomers and the "silent generation," chose Reagan as the top president during their lives. Forty-two percent of 54 to 72-year-olds and 38 percent of 73 to 90-year-olds rank Reagan as the best or second best.

So saying the majority is quite misleading ...

Further, like most polls, there is a bias on the poll, the reporting or both. For those reading only headlines, this part would be missed.

Partisanship also affects people’s choice of a top president, Pew found.

Among Democrats or Democratic-leaning Independents, 71 percent ranked Obama as the best or second best president. Clinton comes in second, with 49 percent ranking him as best or second best.

A majority of Republicans list Reagan as the top president, with 57 percent saying he’s the best of their lifetime. Trump comes in second among Republicans, with 40 percent naming him.

Then there is this small factor: The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that there are 247,813,910 adults living in the United States, they state they surveyed 2,002 U.S. adults. No mention of where they were polled, red states, blue states etc., this is what I still say, regardless of who does the poll they can be shaped to show anything the poll takers want and should be taken with a lot of questions a large grain of salt.

He was certainly best at doubling the National Debt. No doubt the young people who vote him best now will happily dig deep into their pockets when the bills come due.

He was also the best at telling people they could keep their health plan. And surprisingly also the best at taking away people's health plans. A dual accomplishment that is unlikely to ever be duplicated.

He was also best in my lifetime at losing Democratic elections (other than his own). The House and Senate suffered massive losses of Dems not seen since the 1920's.

What else..., Best at allowing a jihadist caliphate to rise up in the ME. Best at allowing Russia to annex part of a sovereign country (admittedly only best in my lifetime - there were other president who allowed Russia to take more). Best at using the IRS to target conservative non-profit groups. Best at using the FBI to spy on the NY Times. Best at telling people who accomplished much that they "didn't build that."

I'm beginning to see the point. The list is endless how best he was.

Obama at this time was dealing with two wars and a brutal economy. Trump has been given the best situation if any modern President other than George W. The fact he’s polling around where Obama was says a lot.

Trump is polling lower than any president in history

Obama was great at killing obl. In contrast bush was great at letting obl kill 3000 americas. He was also great for abandoning the search for him.

You're the best at whataboutery.

Things have been on the decline since Nixon, really. Successive generations of Americans have been accepting the gradual loss of their freedoms, not knowing how good it was before, so of course they are going to say someone like Obama was great. If you compare him across several generations, he's not so great.

It was only "good before" in previous generations if you were a white man.

Yea, things were great on January of his inaguration day. Im completely making everything up...you got me.

Edit: the best part is the Iraq war was “won” in 2008.

Actually the war was over in 2003. Saddam was removed from power and his military were defeated. Now the nation building is still ongoing.

Obama didn't kill OBL.

Ms. Williams' 1st Grade Class:

"Now children, who is the greatest president of your lifetime? Is it Barack Obama? Raise your hand if you want cookies and juice."

That is a lie, Iraq war was won and the Status of Forces agreement was signed in November 2008. TARP brought us out of recession and Obama's policies led to the worst recovery in history, why don't you tell us specifically what he did to warrant your support and post the data to support it? You have been indoctrinated by the leftwing marketing quite well and I know the elites are proud of you, using you to their full advantage

Looks to me like a lot of revisionist history and people who don't have a clue about what is going on in this country buying what they are told but never verifying it

He will be remembered for Obamacare for which democrats had advocated for a generation or more, and for which future generations will be grateful, for screwing up by insulting a cop and then inviting the cop to meet with him, and for singing “Amazing Grace,” among other things. You know, for being a class act. Unlike what’s-his-name, the *****-grabber and bigotry monger who occupies the same office now.

Obama did give us 1200 or so new elected Republicans including Trump while exiting relatively legacy free. For that I rank him higher than Clinton and the Bushes.

Why so many people hate Obamacare
