The Justice Department announced indictments in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election against 12 Russian nationals and accused of them of engaging in a "sustained effort to hack into the computer networks" of the DCCC, the DNC and "the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and release that information on the internet under the names DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0 and through another entity."[/I]

It appears that 12 Russian agents (employees of the GRU) have been indicted for conspiracy in connection with the hack of the DNC. Of course, they will not likely be brought to trial, but it frames the crime. There will likely be "unnamed Americans" that can be enjoined later, similar to the February indictments. I also expect mention that this this "indictment does not extend to".... which, of course, some will interpret as exoneration when it is not.

The Mueller probe needed some tangible progress. The timing is most interesting as Trump will not be able to get away with "I asked Putin about it and he said he didn't do it." Maybe that meeting will not be as easy as NATO after all.

Rosenstein news conference is now going.

Rosenstein said that an unnamed organization coordinated with GRU on timing and means of releasing the documents. That's clearly Wikileaks. This will likely lead to an indictment of Stone. It will be interesting to see what Trump's response will be given his upcoming meeting with Putin (we know how he'll react, though).

Will Trump officially ask Putin to, as a matter of good faith, extradite the accused GRU agents? Probably not.

Huge news. Interesting that it’s right before trump meets with Putin.

"Interesting" isn't the word I'd use to describe what it'll be to discover Trump's reaction to the announcement. "Lamentable" is more what it'll be.

anyone with half a brain that believes this investigation is NOT about Trump is a ****ing moron.

And just watch; Trump will defend every single one of these one dozen Russians & Putin too.

This **** is beyond pathetic & anyone that supports Trump is a traitor, just as Trump is ........

What's interesting is that it's GRU personnel who've been indicted. GRU personnel are not random actors. They are not 400 pound dorks hacking away as they wallow on a bed in their momma's basement.

I mean, it could be Russia, but it could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds, OK? You don’t know who broke in to DNC.

Rosenstein provides an important reminder:

"When we confront foreign interference in American elections, it is important for us to avoid thinking politically as Republicans or Democrats and instead to think patriotically as Americans."

Absolutely agree. That is the crux of this investigation. People should stop thinking of this as a threat to Republicans and start thinking of it as a threat to America. The real patriot would get this.

Great to hear that Mueller has specifically fingered 12 Russian MI officers. Interested in the “unnamed” co-conspirator with whom they coordinated and timed the release of damaging information. No sure why they just won’t say that it was Wikileaks, but perhaps that indictment is forthcoming separately.

I wonder if the timing of the press conference (Rosenstien) was intentional. Between tea with the Queen and Helsinki.

I guess Rosenstein doesn't care all that much about internal interference in American elections since the press does it constantly.

Sure, but if there is any indictment of Stone it will be at least until after the election.

wtf is "internal interference"?

Silly hyperbole.

Republican denialism of/ambivalence to this threat has metastasized into a threat of its own.

What on earth are you talking about AND what does it have to do with the subject at hand?

Rosenstein met with Trump to inform him of the indictments last week. I remember that people were wondering what that meeting was about at the time. Now we know.

are these the same Russians he indicted earlier? Is this indictment in addition to those?

So 13 were indicted before, and now 12 more. Add to it Manafort, Flynn, Papadapoulos, Van Der Zwaan, Gates, three Russian companies, Richard Pinedo, and Konstantin Kilimnik. That's 35 so far and counting. Sounds like a pretty incredible indictment rate. Guess we can all stop saying that the SC investigation is a witch hunt. Right...?

And , of course, Trump will, in the strongest possible terms, demand in the name of the American people and our government that all the Russians named in indictments be sent to the USA and stand trial for the crimes they have been indicted for.
