Germany willing to cut tariffs on US cars, lifting automakers’ shares

Let's be real here.

1) Trump hates German luxury cars. He has stated so many times. He basically hates Germany. That is what is behind this... his petty childish vendetta over his grandpa getting kicked out of Germany.

2) The tariff on American cars is 10%. It could be set at 0% and it still would not have much of an impact on sales. The 10% rate is a symbolic reaction high American tariffs on trucks. The EU would love to lower tariffs on cars and trucks but won't do it unilaterally...

3) Average tariffs between the US and EU is.... well was before Trump.. around 3%.

4) American made cars don't sell well in the EU because they are not what Europeans want...it is as simple as that. I see some Chevrolate cars here, but they have more in common with a Smart car than an American Chevy... and they are cheap too. Thier main competition are the cheap Korean cars. Ford sells a lot but Ford Europe cars are very different that Ford US.

5) The European cars that will be hit by higher tariffs are... drumroll.... mostly luxury cars. So Land Rover, BMW, Porsche and such.. already expensive and those wanting to buy them can afford it and it is not like there are other realistic alternative American luxury cars. When buying such cars, you buy on name/brand, not price. It is an emotional buy, not a logical economic one... since if it was, then there would be no luxury car market.

6) All this tariff bs by Trump is another distraction from his domestic issues. Fact is the US has tons of tariffs or similar barriers for both domestic and international competition and no way will Trump get rid of them since he is adding to them. Let Boeing compete without subsidies and political protection. Let non Americans own US airlines and media..the list goes on and on. Do you really think US farmers would want to give up their protections?

The thing that neither that article nor the one linked within that article say is WHY the US walked away.
Easy. . Trump he hates Germany.

LOL!!

Yeah...let's be real here. Of COURSE it's all because Trump hates Germany. Uh-huh...

.... This is about as meaningful as that time Trump swore NK was denuclearizing, and then 2 weeks later, they resumed their quest for more nuclear weapons.

Note

The following Ford cars that are sold (soon to be stopped) were designed on Ford Europe cars or are direct copies of Ford Europe cars (or just based originally on a european company

Fiesta, based on the european Fiesta, generally only engines being different and some trim
Focus as above
Focus, based on the Mondeo and near a direct copy as above
Taurus, based on an old Volvo design

The only "car" sold by Ford that is not based on a european design is the Mustang

GM used to have Opel/Vauxhall but sold that to Peugeot. A fair number of Opels are rebadged as Buick's and imported into the US.

I believe the most popular US owned and manufactured car being sold in Europe is the mustang

Wait a second...hold up.

You mean...these countries that Trump is trying to negotiate with ALREADY PLACE TARIFFS on US products???

That cant be right...

Its good that we are seeing a willingness from Germany to negotiate before this becomes an uglier. Eventual deals are going to be reached.

This is why politicians accomplish nothing. They don't know how to do anything.

Negotiating isn't a Trump skill. It's what the true leaders in this country do every day.

Meanwhile, we leave mammoth decisions to a bunch of attorneys who never practiced a day of real law in their lives and wouldn't understand a balance sheet to save their lives.

meanwhile, we leave the presidency to a ****ing moron with not a ****ing shread of governmental experience ...................

.............. we have a ****ing reality TV personality for a dingus ...............

If you believe him.

Germany made the move to lower or eliminate tariffs in response to Trump.

Again... The Germans blinked.

You do know don't you that Germany is a member of the EU and therefore cannot unilaterally negotiate a separate economic agreement with US. Although seeing as though that you're an obvious Trumpster it would come as no great surprise to anyone if you didn't.

Trump said that Europe had "horrific" tariffs on U.S. products. The reality is that U.S. autos face a 10% tariff when European cars face a 2.5% tariff on cars here and a 25% tariff on light trucks. I don't think European tariffs are horrific, warranting a 20% tariff. Nor do I think that any of this has anything to do with national security, the rationale for Trump acting without Congress.

When Merkel says jump...the rest of the EU says "how high".

And the US has tariffs on their products.

Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are retiring in droves and "destroying our party" isn't what the researchers find. In fact, Republicans are losing affiliation, according to Pew.

In Pew Research Center surveys conducted in 2017, 37% of registered voters identified as independents, 33% as Democrats and 26% as Republicans. When the partisan leanings of independents are taken into account, 50% either identify as Democrats or lean Democratic; 42% identify as Republicans or lean Republican.

As far as "proving to be massively successful on a wide variety of issues," is concerned, he was able to weaken Obamacare, so people have worse health insurance. Swampy got the taxes of the already rich to be lower, which will balloon the debt. He also was successful at making the air and water dirtier -- and reducing financial protections, thanks to his revulsion to regulations.
