Well, I'd need to see stats to get a grip on how much of a problem it actually is...and how close to "death" our nation is, due to "gaming of the system"...but any gaming of the system is a problem, and while I don't think perfection is a reasonable expectation for anyone, we should do all that is possible to stop it - again, if there were no criminals, we would need no police.

But I'm glad you've come around to at least acknowledging legal immigration is a good thing, as that's a far cry from the whole "failed multiculturalism" claim you started out with in this conversation... ;) You understand, that outside of that line of rhetoric, this filthy leftist has been agreeing with you pretty much the whole conversation, right? hehe Do you understand the problem?

My wife is an immigrant, and our eldest was born over-sees so...she's sort of an immigrant too.
But we all made our decision and now, the wife is as Canuck as one could be.

Nate I'm a "Centerist". I believe both sides of the spectrum have merit.
However the 2 sides have gotten so polarized that I can't really be either.
One thing I am however, is a nationalist.

You're throwing a bunch of confusion my way today, Buzz... First, multiculturalism is a failure, then you're mad about illegal immigration but not legal immigration, admitting you have immigrants in your family, but then you're a centrist nationalist... hehe...I'm not sure being a Centrist means being everything simultaneously... :)

But whatever, I get it, these are complicated times...I find my own opinion being dragged in different directions, depending on the issue and who I'm listening to about it. That's why I say on issues like this, it's better if all the bluster and BS is left out, and just look at what is the law. What is the process. Is the process aligned with our values as a nation. Is it being enforced. All this impossible to quantify rhetoric is what's causing the division, I'm not sure why you can't see that. It is creating multiple tiers of decency, it is taking what should be very boring and calculated and making it into a gong show. It's immigration, FFS, since when is immigration an edge-of-the-seat topic?? When we started injecting fear mongering and polarization and inflammatory generalization...just like most things in government.

See, I don't like to see terrorists win, so I refuse to engage in being terrified, when statistics don't support that fear. "Terrorist" is only "criminal" with a bit of honor and glory injected. These events are tragic, and evil, but their success isn't in the handful of people they kill, it is in the disproportionate response from "terrified" citizens - we do their work for them, that's how terrorism works, why it's the tool of armies who don't have the numbers and strength to fight head on.

Sorry, I reject all that, **** 'em, I'd rather see them lose, and all I have to do to ensure that is not be afraid and live life as I always have. :shrug: That includes not giving up my empathy and compassion and tolerance in favor of hate and fear. How are you fighting terror, Buzz?

Offspring who hear the rhetoric and know the reality of things is something they need to figure out for themselves because all the news media is...partial horse kaka.
Boys who have grown now and will not get mugged ever again. A daughter who knows that if she even smells trouble, to get the hell out.

I've got no problem with heavy-handed, Buzz...but I do have a problem with being unfair (and wrong) through generalization, and if we have to change who we are to do it, you might as well send them our surrender, because that's what they've been trying to do all along - when we become what they say we are, then we become their best recruiter. You should give that some thought...a lot more people die in your model than in mine.

Sorry, that's unsupported fear mongering, my friend, and I flat out ignore it. If we start to see an uptick in crime, regardless of what demographic it originates from, I will expect our police and other appropriate security services to take actions, and pay attention to this next part, because it's important, because they are supposed to be protecting our way of life, which fails if we have to change who we are in response to terrorists.

That's patriotism, man. If you are a really a nationalist, then fight to preserve your national identity, don't sacrifice it because you don't like certain people, or are afraid of them. Freedom has always had a price, and in our own country it has been paid for in far more blood in the past than you see today. Never stop trying to get it right, always mourn and remember those who are lost, but don't make their sacrifice be in vain by giving the terrorists what they want by becoming something less than what we were.

Then make sure you can recognize it when you're done. Show a little discipline, get your numbers right, and make a case that doesn't only fly in an echo chamber. Or at the very minimum, don't make it worse by amplifying the fear mongering and scapegoating that some in this country want to do to secure power and drown out opposition, because that stuff is demonstrably incorrect, and causes division. Do that, and we're on the same page...I want criminals dealt with too, whatever shape, color, or religion demographic they belong to.

Truth be told, I hate these weaselly bastards so much that I simply refuse to let them win. I want our government to ensure that we are as safe as possible, but without any kind of ridiculous "Patriot Act" or "travel ban"...I want to think that if I saw something going down, I would rush to help. But I will not run around with my tail between my legs, barking at everything that moves, simply because they want me to. :shrug:
