Justice Anthony Kennedy, a conservative who provided key votes for same sex-marriage, abortion access and affirmative action, will retire from the Supreme Court.

Kennedy's decision to step down could transform the Supreme Court for generations. President Donald Trump will have his second opportunity to nominate a justice and will likely replace Kennedy with a young, conservative jurist. That would create a bloc of five staunch conservative justices who could move the court further to the right and cement a conservative majority for the foreseeable future.

Well ****.

But I guess this is coming for several of them...at those ages.

Is there any way to prevent another 'nuclear option?'

Guess the fascists win in the end.

I really hate that there are liberal/conservative partisan tests for SCOTUS judges. If there's one place we need to be nonpartisan, it's the courts. But we've tainted even them and now we have to worry about political lean of judges on the court.

Justice clearly isn't blind.

Ohhhhh yeaaaaaaaa! Lets hope they wait until after 2018, when republicans will gain more senate seats, and they could put in Ted Cruz!

When was Ted Cruz a judge?

And soon, Justice Ginsburg will as well perhaps.

Then these decisions like this week will be 7-2, which is a lot closer to 9-0 where they should be.

RIP Roe v. Wade. Hope that conservatives are ready to deal with the aftermath of back-alley abortions.

It's sad how rarely we see a 7-2 or 8-1 decission. It's always split.

Watch how fast the Repubs select/vet/nominate/confirm a replacement.

Justice Kennedy, the pivotal swing vote on the Supreme Court, announces retirement
Kennedy, 81, has been the court’s most important member for more than a decade. The Californian chosen by President Ronald Reagan has cast the deciding vote on the court’s controversial Citizens United campaign finance decision, the constitutional right to same-sex marriage and the continued viability of affirmative action.

Ginsburg won't leave unless her health fails her. I'm not rooting for that even though I wish she was off the bench

It's shocking I tell you, just shocking. Not!
President Trump getting to nominate his 2nd supreme court justice.
He will change the court for generations.

No... keep Cruz for now.

Nominate another Scalia-type.
