I think Democrats need to understand that being "civil" is not a winning ticket. Republicans have been saying horrible things for years, and the best we got out of it was Obama being snarky sometimes. If someone slanders your name for decades the response shouldn't be to ask them nicely to stop doing it. If you want to win then starting playing like Republicans. If Schumer and Pelosi don't have the backbone for it then they can step down. Trump has been crapping on them since he started running, and the best they can do is call for civility from their own party. Give me a break.

The Trump people are out here lecturing us on the importance of taking a hard stance against violence and harassment while supporting a guy that told his supporters "I'd like to punch him in the face" or that "they'd be carried out on a stretcher, folks".

Nobody buys this fake stances or "advice".

'The federal government has been separating border crossing families since before 2001 and throughout the Bush and
Obama administrations, court records reveal. In a 2016 opinion by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals,
the court confirmed that since before 2001, illegal alien adults have oftentimes been separated from the minor
children with whom they arrived at the border.

What changed by zero tolerance was that it is more unlikely that these illegals will be able to stroll around the USA
for years waiting for their status to be adjudicated as they never intend to show up for that situation to become resolved.

Too late. Damage already done.

What's more concerning is that she speaks for an ever increasing segment of the Democrat electorate, which has moved to the extremist, violent, fascist, 'by any means necessary', 'the ends justifies the means' left.

Schumer and Pelosi (to a lesser extent) rebuking Waters isn't going to alter that dynamic in the Democrat electorate in the least.

Agreed. Time and again, Trump's set the situation where congress had to, or should have, done their job, and congress, the Democrats in congress more specifically, have refused to do it.

Take legislation to permanently fix the illegal immigrant family separation issue. How's Trump's EO going to stand up against a federal court ruling? Temporary at best. The real fix, legislation to be written and passed, needs to come from congress. They failed.

One branch of the federal government expecting another branch of the federal government to do its job isn't authoritarian in the least.

Depending on the situation the parents may have not had a better choice.
Which is not to say I know that for sure or anything, just that I'm aware things are really ****ed up in some central american areas.

Great, you admit that there was a significant change in what was happening.

You can't have it both ways. If Obama was terrible and Trump has done something to fix it, then Obama and Trump weren't the same on the issue.

Besides, I'd really rather see more bipartisan supported legislation, but that may very well be a lost cause in the present political climes.

If the GOP needs Dem votes perhaps they should make the effort to get them by offering them a bill that they can support?
