Pittsburgh protesters shut down highway for hours over fatal police shooting of unarmed teen [W:425]

Re: Pittsburgh protesters shut down highway for hours over fatal police shooting of unarmed teen Ant

I don't know what that means.

He's talking about the protesters because they were blocking a highway, I imagine.

"McDonough confirmed that Antwon was not armed and that no shots were fired at the officers."

Again.

When will we change things?

They ought to arrest them before anyone gets killed. I think it's illegal to block highways, isn't it? Besides that, it's extremely dangerous to the people doing the blocking.

You should read the link in the OP.

Here are the facts.

Cops pulled the car over after hearing of a drive by shooting. The car matched the description, and had bullet holes in it. Once commanded to exit the car, one suspect attempted to flee on foot. At this point, the officers had no idea if the suspect was armed or, though they had sufficient probable cause to believe he was, and had just murdered someone.

So the question you gotta ask is, do you believe, given that set of facts, that this suspect could have posed a threat to others?

That's what I thought this thread was about, too.

Given the title.

The guns were found in the car after the fact, and the probability that this kids either was a murderer, or an accessory to murder...is VERY high.

I've never understood why anyone who isn't guilty would just take off running. Of course, perhaps the kid was guilty of something less than murder -- marijuana possession, or something -- and he thought he should run. Who knows, he made a stupid (and deadly) mistake.

Maybe he was just a naive and unthinking teen (that's par for the course), or maybe, he was the shooter the article talks about. It sounds as if some video evidence has been uncovered so that should clear it up.

Interesting... Is BLM like the boy who cried wolf, or is it the cops? Or both? Why is distrusting the cops becoming the default? Did folks just wake up one day, and decide they wanted to hate the good people who serve and protect? Or have enough people died unjustly that the faith in the cops is gone?

Seems like a mess to me....

I don't care. Police officers should stop murdering unarmed civilians.

That's because you're white.

I'll meet you there...some of this HAS been brought on to themselves by the police themselves. Even if it's only 1%, that's a lot of cops. But that's not the REAL reason for the massive distrust in my opinion. It's the penchant of good officers closing ranks to protect the few bad that has eroded certain factions of the publics trust. However, I also understand the police point of view as well, as this story, and countless untold numbers of others illustrates.

No I don't think it will. Sitting in the highway blocking people from getting to their jobs doesn't make people care about your cause it makes people hate you.

I don't know when we decided that protests would be just to inconvenience as many people as possible.

But no I don't think this will have any bearing on it I believe this will have aggravated and more people then the death of Antoine.

That end do we have the facts of whether or not the shooting was justified? If we don't then the protesters inconvenience to everybody for no reason

But it doesn't matter really this is not how you affect change. I think they're just happens to be far more apathy toward this sort of thing then empathy.

I personally don't know this is the first I've heard of Antoine being shot by police.

So we're not doing the second amendment anymore? Or do we just not care about the second amendment when the person is black?

Um... I don't think anyone is being too badly inconvenienced.

Re: Pittsburgh protesters shut down highway for hours over fatal police shooting of unarmed teen Ant

I don't care. Police officers should stop murdering unarmed civilians.

One has nothing to do with the other. And blocking everyone from traveling and some circumstances that could be considered kidnapping or arrest, is not to going to stop anything that's happening from happening.

It was a poor protest move.

If I was stuck on the highway for hours because some turds are throwing a fit in the highway yeah I would be greatly inconvenienced.

When will we change things?

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/21/us/east-pittsburgh-police-fatal-shooting-antwon-rose/index.html

Lets look at facts.

Tuesday, someone fired nine .40-caliber rounds at a 22-year-old in North Braddock borough, Allegheny County police said. The victim, who returned fire, was struck and taken to a hospital. He was treated and released.

so someone called the police over a shooting where someone shot and hit a 22 year old boy who shot back.

Witnesses, including one who flagged down a police officer, described the vehicle in the shooting. Thirteen minutes later, an East Pittsburgh officer saw a silver Chevy Cruze, which matched the vehicle's description, police said.

so we have an eyewitness that filled the police in on the vehicle.

The officer stopped the car around 8:40 p.m.
The officer ordered the driver out of the car and onto the ground, police said. Antwon and another passenger "bolted" from the vehicle, and the East Pittsburgh officer opened fire, striking Antwon, Allegheny County police said.

Two semiautomatic firearms were recovered from the floor of the vehicle, he said.

they where in fact armed so that lie is now debunked.
also that car had a bullet hole on the back window from where the 20 year old shot at it and hit it.

"From all accounts, he was a generous, hard-working and highly promising student," Merritt said. Assistant Superintendent Licia Lentz of the school district said Antwon was "a very bright young man" who took advanced placement classes.

if this is the case why is he involved in drive by shootings?
that is a felony.

it was a good shoot based on the evidence that the officers were working with.
They will be cleared of all charges.

People routinely blow up with no facts. “unarmed black youth shot by cops” sounds like a hit, doesn’t it? But the facts tell a different story. They fit the description and gave the officer probable cause to stop them. Refusing to cooperate is a major no-no on a felony stop.

Some how America has lost its mind. They are fighting the police, the are fighting the White House, and they are fighting everyday people trying to use the highway.

I stongly suspect outside forces are taking advantage and formenting chaos to weaken the country. BTW, IMO, they are winning.

Pretend you're the cop. Knowing what you currently know, that this car and its occupants were just involved in a drive by shooting in which someone was murdered...and one has gotten out and is running on foot....

Do you consider that person a potential threat?
