Trump Signs Order to Keep Families Together at Border

I don't recall Obama separating 2000 children a month from their parents. Can you please link that?

How about YOU link the statistic showing Trump has separated "2000 children per month?"

My understanding of the facts is there were around 13000 total children held in the HHS programs, all but about 1500 - 2000 were un-accompanied children. So claiming "2000 accompanied children per month" under the Trump Administration efforts is a bit of a stretch.

Meanwhile, under Obama?

Hundreds' of illegal immigrant children are being handed to relatives who are in the US illegally too, as HHS admits it makes NO EFFORT to find out their immigration status. Published: 10:19 EDT, 18 June 2014

Trump told us that he could not sign an executive order. Why does he constantly lie?

With his recent (and very proper) decision to halt military exercises in South Korea, I believe it has less to do about "lying" and far more to do with being ignorant about what to do about anything (poor leadership), while constantly erring on the shallow themes that created his fan base for personal support. He has also proven to be extremely stubborn and if challenged he will dig in and make it worse in order to prove that he is the boss.

For months, after he originally declared that he simply can't sign an EO, he blamed the Democratic Party for simply not doing what the GOP wants while tossing "the wall" out there. He constantly declared stupid things like "Democrats don't care about crime" or that "Democrats like infestation" and whatever other senseless political jab as he wrongly compared what occurs in Europe to America's current events. His only interest was to continue playing up the political game of railing on the Left. In the meantime, his fans encouraged it by cheering over his "strength" to defy and within their very tired theme of choosing paths that simply seek to shove matters in a "liberal's" face. And try as they might, even Rob Portman, the Republican Senator from Ohio, has stated...

MSgt on behalf of Republican Senator Rob Portman said:
I have said for the last several weeks" that "I oppose the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their parents. This is counter to our values."

Apparently, even Republican Senators know that Democrats have not been the problem. This has been a Trump escalation, on an already poor policy, simply because Trump wished to please his flock and play insignificant and damaging politics. It's why his "border wall" crap went from Mexico paying for it, to the U.S. government paying for it, to the "rich" U.S. military paying for it. Despite seeing the writing on the wall (pun), his inability to leave the flock's ignorant rhetoric behind is a sign that he needs to feel the flock's devotion at every juncture.

Then, all of a sudden, after commercial businesses, the Catholic Pope, and even Trump's wife starts criticizing, the man signs an EO. Couldn't be the proper leader on his own I guess. He needed that global pressure to push him past the flock's nonsense. Whether or not the EO will matter is not the point. The point of his sudden EO is that it seems to me that if Trump shoves his flock to the furthest reaches of his mind, he may actually have something more to offer the nation. The two recent examples:

1) Trump's flock was all about declaring that Kim should swallow whole our military exercises before the summit, simply because Trump didn't stop them. But after the summit in which Trump wisely suspended them? His flock all of a sudden dismissed the whole thing as not a big deal. They were more concerned about ensuring that the word "concession" didn't make them the obvious hypocrites they are. Once again, the issue was about defying "liberals" and Obama...not their inability to think for themselves or what they supposedly believe in.

2) Trump's flock was all about Trump's Tweet against signing an ELO and ate up the idea that its all the Democrats fault. They loved that Trump defined the whole thing as either opening the flood gates ("liberal" weakness) or separating the kids ("conservative" strength). But now? More of the same dismissive attitude because once again their demagogue has left them without a paddle as he led them down the path of mindless defiance and then jumped off.

He is quite the proven liar, but in so many cases he seems more incapable of choosing between his flock's false devotion and the right thing.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Yet here we are, looking at congress people who have sat on their well rounded rear ends for years and years and let it come to a head instead of doing their jobs. Now these same people are thumping their chests and are grandstanding in time for the next election.
It is so obvious, it isn't even funny.

Yeah, I have to put my hope in the assumption that this is as obvious to everyone else as it is to you and me.

Upon illegal entry.
Should we look into what i.e. Mexico does to people who cross the border illegally? Why is only their southern border so porous?

I lived in Mexico, with my inlaws for 1 year. I also am originally from Brownsville, Tx, a stone's throw from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. We don't need a visa to travel into Mexico...hell we don't even need a passport, really...I crossed every day sans passport...I had my SENTRI card to get into the US and was never stopped once traveling into Mexico...Mexican immigration waved at me when I drove through since they knew I was traveling from work. I was never required any proof of legal residency.

I'll vote for someone who is willing to put a stop to this nonsense for sure, who is willing to fix our broken immigration system, who is coming up with ideas how to ease legal entry but cuts down on illegal border crossings.

It was why I voted for George W Bush. I am glad someone is on board with this...

:x This is ridiculous...no one should be forced to take medication to deal with trauma...sometimes the drugs make it worse. It certainly doesn't heal it...and has life long consequences for children.

it's probably going to take an amnesty, significant fines for non compliance with Everify even when using a subcontractor as insulation, and a better designed guest worker program going forward. the jobs are the draw, and i don't see kids being taken away from ag industry management or from restaurant owners.

Trump should be fine with a guest worker program.

It seems to me our biggest problem at the moment is the backlog on hearings.

Correct me if I am wrong but are not Immigration judges, attorneys appointed by the Attorney General to act as an administrative judge within the Executive Office for Immigration review ? If so, the government is swarming with attorneys so why hasn't AG Sessions been recruiting them, swearing them in and sending them where they are needed? Beef up the number of judges and start cranking out these hearings. It shouldn't take more than two weeks to determine if a person gets to stay or is deported.

We know with the feckless act of capture and release over 80% never show up for their hearings as they hook up with people they know who came before them or get lost in a sanctuary city. When they are no shows they go on the list to be rounded up and deported. The less than 20 percent that do show up for their hearings tells a story that the left is not willing to be honest about.

Currently those families that go to the ports of entry seeking asylum are not charged with illegal entry unless it is determined they are not an actual family but rather those posing as a family. Those that do it the right way are not charged. These are the ones I want to see kept as a family unit while they are detained. Those who lie, cheat, or cross the border not following the rules....could care less.

There are around 2000 kids being detained currently that came across with parents and now they will be united. There are 10,000+ who came over with no parent. Many of these kids are in contact with family members back home. It is time to provide safe passage for these kids back to their family/relatives. If their parent/guardian wishes to seek asylum for their children into the U.S. they should accompany them to a port of entry. Maybe it is time to stop all aid we send the governments of these Central American countries that are corrupt with cartels running the show instead direct the money to organizations that will provide a safe haven for the children in these countries.

Ted Cruz already proposed recruiting more IJ's and Trump said NO.

Don't you know?

Like a woman, politicians change their minds all the time.

Except Flores says kids have to be released after 20 days.

Depends if their parents tried to get asylum. Which could extent the process for a good time longer than that.

Not quite. Here is a link the the order:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/read-trumps-full-executive-order-on-family-separation

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...drafts-plan-end-separations-border/717898002/

All it is doing is placing family units in detention together, with military bases and DHS family housing facilities set up to hold families together.

Sorry folks...NOT "catch and release." :coffeepap:

Lol, Just read the EO. Notice under section 3 that says "to the extent permitted by law". So effectively children will still be separated until either the judge rescinds the Flores agreement or Congress makes a law stating that families can be detained together until after the court proceedings.

How about we wait and see if someone challenges this Executive Order as violating the Flores Decree...

NOTE: I said in my OP, "unless...a Federal Court challenge prevents it." I'm thinking someone is going to feel catch and release is the best idea, and try to have this E.O. reversed in Federal Court.

Time will tell.

I think Trump may have done something brilliant. If he is planning what I believe he is going to do than the entire narrative is going to blow up on the Media and DNC. He is going to follow the Flores agreement and after 20 days release the kids as he has been doing as that is currently the law. This will effectively force either the Democrats to the table on changing the law or the judge to rescind the Flores agreement, effectively proving his point and giving him more ammunition for his "Fake News" line.

Do you have a link to back that up?

Actually, President Trump said that “ We need to have a real border, not judges”.

From:

"We have to have a real border, not judges," Trump said during a midday speech to the National Federation of Independent Business. "Thousands and thousands of judges they want to hire. Who are these people? . . . Seriously, what country does it? They said, 'Sir, we'd like to hire about 5,000 or 6,000 more judges.' Five thousand or 6,000. Now, can you imagine the graft that must take place?"

Thanks for the link. And I disagree with Trump. We need both. These people that are coming across our border should be detained, processed and a determination made whether they stay or go in a matter of two weeks and the logical way to speed up the process is to have more judges. Last I read there is a backlog of something like 6000 cases.

I agree they should not be left in limbo for months.
They need more judges.

You just drive or walk anywhere, or swim for that matter, across the border without being stopped?
