I expect counter tariffs from Trump and the EU to reciprocate etc America is now fighting tariffs on several fronts, i've said it before and i will say it again no one wins in trade wars it causes resentment and ill feelings on both sides it could end up damaging NATO which is already facing trouble in regards to Turkey

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union will begin charging import duties of 25 percent on a range of U.S. products on Friday, in response to U.S tariffs imposed on EU steel and aluminium early this month, the European Commission said on Wednesday.

The move confirms a tit-for-tat dispute that could escalate into a full trade war, particularly if U.S. President Donald Trump carries out his threat to penalise European cars.

The Commission formally adopted a law putting in place the duties on 2.8 billion euros ($3.2 billion) worth of U.S. goods, including steel and aluminium products, farm produce such as sweetcorn and peanuts, bourbon, jeans and motor-bikes.

“We do not want to be in this position,” EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said in a statement, adding that the “unilateral and unjustified” U.S. decision had left the EU with no choice.

She called the EU response proportionate and in line with World Trade Organization rules and said that they would be removed if Washington removed its metal tariffs. EU steel and aluminium exports now facing U.S. tariffs are worth a total of 6.4 billion euros.

Donald Trump hit the EU, Canada and Mexico with tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminium at the start of June, ending exemptions that had been in place since March.

Since the USA has created the refugees that have flooded into the EU, does the EU have a right to bill the USA for the costs of care and feeding of these same refugees. The biggest problem is that the Flamin' haired, white eyed redskin, with the forked tongue never admits a mistake so he won't back down from his monumental stupidity and instead will pump the MSM with great success stories to rival Aesop's Fables. Everybody loses.

This should end well... sigh. (We need any other evidence that Trump is a complete idiot about this?)

France and the UK was also involved along with other NATO members .... Libya and the refugee problem is a problem of NATO's doing so much of the EU is at fault

Has the US created the refugees from Somalia, Ethiopia, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, and every other former European colony, since well before the Arab Spring? It is not our fault as a nation, the Arab Spring turned into an Arab Winter. Cut the BS.

This is not going to end well.

I honestly think Trump doesn't know and/or forgot that EU is a rather large trading block.
It doesn't play around which is why it's targeting tariffs in specific regions of the US. This game was played with Bush over a decade ago

The current tariffs on US cars in the EU is 10%, 6% on cars from Asia. Start examine the existing EU tariffs on other US goods and you will start learning what this "trade war" is about. Germany has a 25% duty due on all American whiteware, all American Capital Equipment. High end audiophile equipment made in the US faces a 50% duty throughout the EU. The McIntosh MAC7200 stereo receiver sells here for $7,200. In Europe, $10,360 with duties. In Japan, where the most units are sold, $22,800 (McIntosh is the audiophile god in Japan, old used units sell for even more, no tariffs, just demand). Our allies love us. In Qatar, which hates us, the unit sells for $7,250. The MAC7200 is not the most expensive or the best high end Audiophile piece of equipment made completely in the US, with no foreign made parts. Sobine Audio, sells an 8+2 tube amplifier with output of 200 watts per channel, the K1241 which sells for $244,000. It has been listed for import approval by the EU for 7 years. This coming autumn, it will be replaced by a new unit, the K1242, which will be entered for the approval process at the bottom of the list. I don't know that it the best single piece of audio equipment made and sold in the US, I have never heard one played and there are other units in the same range. I will likely never buy one or its successor. It takes 8 people to place one of the K1241 on a properly support shelf or piece of furniture, and an engineering degree to hook it up to speakers and input equipment. I am more than happy with my 12 year old then top of the line Yamaha 100 watt per channel 7.2 channel receiver in my living room. I've never turned the volume up past 4, and at 4 that was an earth shattering moment with me and Bruce Springsteen, and 72 of my neighbors. Bruce's ears were ringing in NJ. :)

American steel is subject to a 20% tariff by the EU. German steel suffers no tariffs in the US. Take a good look at the tariffs placed on US goods by our "allies."

Who started this tariff war? :doh

It was fun watching Merkel try to stare down Trump at the last trade conference. You can't stare down an idiot, right? But the idiot summed it all up in a couple of sentences, "I'm all for free trade. Let's put an end to all tariffs and play fair." Angie baby had no response to offer. She stared at her shoes. Damn, she has poor taste in shoe styles. Doesn't look like she'll make it through the next election, anyway. Those damn German right wingers want her out, and the same with the refugees.

I drive a 2011 Caddy. It looks and acts like it is brand new. It could use a good wax job and buffing to get that ultra deep shine back, but the glare on a sunny day does blind oncoming drivers and nearby pedestrians. I'd never buy a Nazi-mobile. They are over rated junk anyway. I'm not thrilled with the Japanese either, but I must admit, the Subaru is a great vehicle for college age kids, and a relatively safe car for them. And those Chinese made Buick sedans, very nice family cars at relatively reasonable prices. But most want a crossover or SUV. A Subaru fits that bill.

Currently only one Buick is imported from China to the US no sedans

That changes with the 2019 models. All Buick cars will be built in China. Actually, it will start mid 2018. Buick plants in the US are being converted to production of GM light trucks, crossovers and SUVs. Remaining assembly line workers are being replaced by robots after normal attrition and bought early retirements. The formal announcement were made in 2016. Popularity of the Buick name in China prevented the shut down of the brand, like Pontiac. Chevrolet cars will be manufactured in Mexico, where most north and south American bound Volkswagens are also produced. The restructuring of GM will allow only for cars by Cadillac and Corvette to remain in the US. Ford is making a similar move. Fiat Chrysler will withhold decisions until a new owner takes control. The company is currently being shopped. The two most likely buyers are Chinese, the third, from India.

This concerns me, and hopefully it concerns all Americans. This is not good.

Do you have a link regarding Buick production moving to China? It is not something I have read about as of yet.

I know Ford is ending car sales with the exception of the Mustang and raised version of the new Focus (to be made in China)

GM's own annual Shareholders reports. Comes in the mail. And the SEC 10K filings. Also comes in the mail with the Shareholders report. I don't do links, do look for them when I have hard copy delivered to my door by a person wearing a uniform. No need for duplicative efforts.

I just read GM's 2017 10K and it had no mention of exporting Buick cars to the US,
