Why should I make them feel great? Why should I come up with a euphemism when "they are being detained pending a decision on asylum" accurately describes the situation?

The policy that the administration is following is wrongheaded, stupid and immoral. But it is not illegal and you misusing the word kidnapping doesn't help your cause.
 
Important reminder:

Peter Fonda was foul-mouthed and uncouth.

Trump split up thousands of families, and hundreds of children will never be united with their parents as they are lost within the foster care system.

Precisely which of these am I expected to find more offensive?

As liberal as I am, and as much a fan of Peter Fonda as I am, I'm afraid to say this but this is a Peter Fonda moment equivalent to Hanoi Jane's moment atop that NVA tank.
And it's going to backfire on him the same way that Hanoi Jane's moment backfired on her.

All that having been said, it should not be lost on all of you angry and outraged Trump fans that, in essence, Peter Fonda is asking "How would YOU like it if (XXXXXX) was happening to you instead?"
There was a time not too long ago when a woman of Melania's age with child, in her country, might have been forced to make a Sophie's Choice, and the fact is, what we have happening right now really IS a whole lot of Sophie's Choices.
It looks BAD because it IS BAD, it's terrible.

Peter Fonda has a lot of difficulty expressing himself in 140 characters or less. Twitter is a blunt little tool and using it for something like this is inherently dangerous. Using Twitter to express thoughts on anything beyond promoting your new music video is dangerous.
Our problems generally do not fit in 140 characters.
That's why I do not use Twitter.

Maybe Peter Fonda should have just asked: "Hey Melania, how would you like it if this was happening to you and Barron instead?"

Of course, I'm sure the Right probably still would have been outraged anyway. ;)
