This won't get him in the good graces of Sessions. But if this is true, I will be the first one to applaud Trump's decision.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.

Trump's remarks put him sharply at odds with Attorney General Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.

Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed its measure.

Even though you won't read this anyway...This was always inevitable....As the country starts to run out of money, governments need a new tax base...Since Pot is generally thought of these days as harmless by a majority of the people, then it only makes sense to tap into that market....

I'll be second...but I fear your private prison lobby will be fighting this pretty hard... Big pharma too. Big booze too. Possibly even big tobacco, if they can tear themselves away from e-cig fear mongering...

But here's hoping. :)

Hell, Trump may do it for the sole purpose of pissing off Sessions. :)

And I am more than ok with that.

It would be the proper thing to do, but we'll see if he actually goes through with it.

This was/is inevitable.. Pot hurts no one..

I wonder what his Evangelical base is gonna say about this, though...

Given that many of Trump's policy decisions are based on such pettiness, I would be more surprised than not if Trump visualizes the look on Jeff Session's face each time he thinks about this issue.

Probably the same thing they've said about him repeatedly violating the Ten Commandments. "We'll give him a mulligan".

As will I, but I will give him props for not being afraid to say how he feels about the issue, which probably doesn't have much widespread support amongst his Evangelical fan base.

The only thing Trump feels is which way the wind is blowing

Good grief, you can't even give him credit when he is thinking of doing something you agree with....How sad.

...

We're gonna need a new form 4473

But really this is great news for people who could benefit from hemp derived CBD (for seizures, anxiety, depression, inflammation, pain, insomnia etc....)

My thought exactly. A lobbyist (we can all guess who) convinced him supporting it would be more popular than coming out against it.

Otherwise I don't think he would give a **** one way or the other.

LOL yeah I remember someone saying that, so I looked up who said it...

“We kind of gave him— ‘Alright, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here,’” - Tony Perkins, the president of the conservative Family Research Council

but he also said...

“If this behavior were occurring today, right now, as he is president of the United States, I can assure you that my support and the support of Evangelicals would be dissipating very rapidly,” Perkins said. “But we’re talking about something that occurred ten years ago, among a number of things that occurred with this president, prior to being president.”

I hope it happens. We'll see...

I think big tobacco may already have a plan to incorporate marijuana into their available products. Why not sell conveniently rolled, packaged marijuana just as they do tobacco?

Doesn't really prove anything. No one dies from pot and you can't overdose on it. As with any drugs, legal or otherwise, it isn't wise to operate a vehicle or heavy machinery when taking the drug(s). Drinking can kill you without driving, but not pot.

We've barely scratched the surface of the medicinal properties of marijuana. I would welcome Trump doing this with arms wide open.

Trump has balls of steel.

Obama would never have done this

Obama would have likely pushed for this had he had a Democrat controlled Congress when the states started legalizing so much. He eased the enforcement of federal laws against marijuana during his time in office.

I smoked a lot of pot when I was much younger but gave it up because it caused paranoia and anxiety for me, but later in life I took it back up again and just moderated my usage and now everything is great. I sincerely believe that smoking pot is the reason why I haven't developed lung cancer even though I've smoked for 40 years.. :) Now I even vap the stuff, and it's even more mellow..
