Muhammad Ali family lawyer to Trump: thanks, but no pardon needed

And Leon Spinks. There were times Ali just didn't have his **** together. Not the greatest of all time, IMO.

I dunno. That fight against Foreman in Zaire was about the best I've ever seen in any weight class. The courage it took to lay back on the ropes and let Foreman pound on his body, tiring himself out, was amazing to watch.

Notice two of three most recent potential pardons have been for athletes. Trump truly has a penchant to help African-Americans. Someone needs to.

Stallone advocated for Johnson. Kardashian for Johnson. I wonder who advocated for Ali?

Somebody else who didn't know the conviction had been overturned? Who could that be?

The one that was overturned 41 years ago by the Supreme Court of the United States of America after Ali never spent a minute in prison.

Well, you made my day knowing what I know now.

Wasn't he tried for draft dodging in the 60s? Ironic coming from the Draft Dodger-in-Chief.

Being excused from service by the Government is not draft dodging.

Stallone advocated for Johnson. Kardashian for Johnson. I wonder who advocated for Ali? Probably Trump. Ali was Trump's idol.

And don't forget unemployment. Like Clinton, Trump's a black president. Maybe more black than Obama.

That was a crap performance, IMO. I paid good pay per view money to watch Foreman get hit once and go down like a woman. And the permanent toll Foreman's pounding took to Ali's body was devastating. Ali was never the same, IMO.

And don't forget unemployment. Like Clinton, Trump's a black president. Maybe more black than Obama.

Black is beautiful, and Trump is beautiful. Just like that piece of chocolate cake he shared with Xi. It was brown and beautiful, but that's close enough.

I would have thought Bob Guccione was Trump's idol.

And who staffed that restaurant? Mexicans. Trump's the first black illegal alien president.

I don't know what the term black president meant for Clinton, never understood it, fully. Maybe it was Clinton's shades and his blues-like riffs? I know Trump truly tries to make African-Americans' lives better.

Really? That must explain why he isn't doing a thing to erase the legacy of the first black President.

Trump is trying to help the plight of many African-Americans not just the socialist BO.

I met Larry Holmes back when he still owned his nightclub in Easton, PA. He was very proud of having beaten the s**t out of Ali.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment on Friday that he might pardon boxing legend Muhammad Ali drew a prompt response from the late heavyweight champion’s estate: thanks but no thanks.

“We appreciate President Trump’s sentiment, but a pardon is unnecessary. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the conviction of Muhammad Ali in a unanimous decision in 1971. There is no conviction from which a pardon is needed,” said Ron Tweel, a lawyer for the boxer’s estate and his widow, Lonnie.

Before leaving to attend the Group of Seven summit in Canada, Trump told reporters he was considering pardoning some 3,000 people, including Ali, who died in 2016.
======================================================
In many ways this penchant for pardoning people will come back to bight Trump.

I interviewed Ali long after his career ended. He was beginning to show signs, health issues. I would never claim to have known him but one thing I noticed was his POWER. He filled a room by entering. Not just physical power, but I immediately knew that ANY issue you take with Ali is going deep and wide and fast. He seemed to have an all encompassing instinct for people. His intelligence, cunning could all be seen in his eyes, but in there two was a playful kid, who could dance, bob and weave any reporter's question...and he doesn't lose.

Trump is being his usual 'grand king' routine, he must need some adoration from his twits, but he's stupid for thinking the family would want this. Ali wore that conviction, that whole issue of losing his crown as HIS victory. He showed them how petty is the government of the United States ...

...and he simply went out and got it back.

No, Ali would refuse this as his message to the black community was very clear. "The man" meaning the whole operation could be beaten and he did.

I think your avatar developed a bit of a relationship with Ali. Not Cossell-like, but they kind of understood each other.

Typical Trump: Fire! -- Aim!... Ready!

This dunce neglected to have staff research this before he shot his mouth off.

Pardon Ali for what?

Being a funny, talented, athletica black man. He scared the **** out of them.

Did any of you ever take the time to read the Nixon Watergate tapes? Nixon was obsessed with the possibility that Mohamed Ali was organizing an all black movement/political party. Nixon, who's political instincts were astonishing, knew in his heart that whites, like those carrying signs outside his office would follow Ali.

Trump is such a dunce. It's times like these when all we can do is just shake our head and present the obligatory face palm.
]

Not as much of a dunce as all the people that voted for him. Christ almighty, what a joke and a complete disaster. When the **** finally hits the fan from his joke of a presidency, these dunces will still deny it

Hunter?

Oh yeah. And you likely have figured out that Hunter was more than an avatar for me then. I was stirring **** on a small scale, using the same techniques he did. "Spirew Agnew was right, the press is like a gang of monkey,s master bating in cage."

Their relationship was pretty deep, they remained in touch for many years. However Thompson's mental health deteriorated while Ali's body and brain went.

From what I understand the Supreme Court dismissed the case around 1971 or so. I think his estate better reconsider. Getting a pardon isn't easy. It's a sign of recognition and respect from our President. It's a good sign that Mohammad Ali did not deserve to be sanctioned due to the fact of his beliefs.
