Tariffs on steel and aluminum imports imposed by the Trump administration have workers in mills that use those raw materials to build other products concerned about the future of their jobs.

What's happening?
At the Borusan Mannesmann mill in Baytown, Texas, which manufactures steel pipe and tube products, workers penned letters to President Donald Trump on Tuesday, imploring the administration not to carry out the tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Trump's raising tariffs on steel & aluminum has gotten many working class people upset because of the negative impact on their business & jobs.

If they would just read his books, it would ease their minds...it'll all turn out better for them!

This is just the start. How Trump didn't realize how dependant America is on cheap foreign steel and aluminum, I have no idea. There are so many more jobs tied to it than there are in raw material production.

It's funny, the biggest complaint up here has always been we ship off our raw materials cheap to you guys, and buy it back expensively as finished goods. I do not get this move at all.

He's very short-sighted. I mentioned this somewhere else the other day, in another thread.

He doesn't think about the long-term effects of anything he does.

Perhaps because he's either unaware or doesn't care.

Unfortunately I don't think you're talking about long term pain here. I think this will impact you in the short to mid term as well. A lot of manufacturing runs at very narrow margins, and a 25% increase in raw material cost could, and will, sink a lot of businesses, or at the very minimum force them to cut costs elsewhere...and we all know that the biggest cost for any business is labour. This means that less businesses will be buying parts and materials from other business...there will be a ripple effect. I truly hope that he backs down from this.

I went into detail in another thread the other day about this. I just hate to repeat myself.

Isn't that cute, working class people that think trump cares about them, Priceless.

I heard someone say, "trade wars are good & easy to win." ..............

"Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated."
Remember that?

Learn this, get this, remember this always:
If Donald Trump does not know something, NOBODY knows it.

In extreme cases of narcissistic personality disorder, the narcissist actually thinks that they are so intelligent that no one else knows more than they do, ABOUT ANYTHING.

Trump does not take advice from anyone. If a person, even an established and acclaimed expert, corrects Donald Trump on something, they're usually dismissed, or at the very least, ignored. Few things anger Donald Trump more than being told that he is wrong on something, or misinformed, or uninformed. This is acknowledged by nearly everyone who has ever dealt with the man.
If later on it is determined that this move is causing problems, I wager he will emerge and state something along the lines of:

"Nobody knew that metal tariffs could be so complicated."
If Donald Trump doesn't know something, it's UNKNOWABLE, far as he's concerned.

If they would just read his books, it would ease their minds...it'll all turn out better for them!

Clearly they didn't attend Trump University, where they could have taken courses to better explain his winning strategy....

First will you show where direct labor is the largest cost for firms building tubing or aluminum cans? Also wondering if all domestic competitors will have the same increase where the disadvantage is. Then you could let us know the cost of the raw material as a percent of the sales price of whatever is being built.

Actually Bernie sanders seems to be closer to Trump than you folks who want no tariffs on foreign goods, but seem OK on tariffs and taxes on American goods. The heck with blue collar jobs, if it costs me a penny more for my can of beer.

A Turkish company is complaining?!? Wow, who would have thought ...

Who cares if higher prices mean fewer sales? If my competitors are miserable too, I'm happy. Yea right.

To be honest, F them. THese people were dumb enough to vote for this jerkoff. It's typical lack of empathy.Oh, now that its effecting your life, you suddenly care. The lack of empathy that it takes to be republican voter is astounding. Who cares how much republican policies screw people, especially if they are brown skinned, they only care about themselves and themselves only
