Donald Trump is ?Obsessed? With Pardons, His New ?Favorite Thing,' White House Official Says

President Donald Trump has reportedly become “obsessed” with his pardon powers, which were described by a White House official this week as the billionaire’s new “favorite thing” to discuss.

Trump, who recently claimed he had the power to pardon himself, has asked his lawyers to draft a list of potential candidates for pardons and it’s possible he could sign a dozen or more over the next two months, The Washington Post reported Tuesday citing the unnamed White House official.
===========================================
The pardon power has apparently gone to The Donald's head. Watch this space.

I first quickly scanned the thread title and thought it said DONALD TRUMP IS POSSESSED.

I thought, finally, we have a viable explanation for the evil which inhabits the White House.

The idea that the leader can be the judge in his own case is something that belongs in a dictatorship. And no doubt Trump believes that also and is trying to achieve it.

Not sure of the validity of the claim, should be easy to prove just see what he does. I do wonder how much crazy is acceptable by Congress before they have to throw a net over him.

I'm waiting him to pardon that other famous New Yorker, Bernie Madoff.

(Sigh)

A new "worry" for those with TDS?

Let's see...how many people has President Trump pardoned so far?

Republican President Donald Trump has pardoned five people and commuted two sentences as of June 6, 2018:

Joe Arpaio, former sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, was convicted of contempt of court and was awaiting sentencing. Pardoned on August 25, 2017.
Sholom Rubashkin, sentenced to 27 years in prison for bank fraud. Commuted on December 20, 2017.[39]
Kristian Saucier, convicted of unauthorized possession and retention of national defense information. Pardoned on March 9, 2018.
Lewis "Scooter" Libby, convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with the CIA leak scandal. Pardoned on April 13, 2018, following an earlier commutation by President George W. Bush in July 2007.
Jack Johnson, was convicted in 1913 for traveling with his white girlfriend by an all-white jury for violating the Mann Act, which made it illegal to transport women across state lines for "immoral" purposes. Posthumously pardoned on May 24, 2018.
Dinesh D'Souza, convicted of campaign finance violations. Pardoned on May 31, 2018.
Alice Johnson, first-time drug offender sentenced to life without parole for conspiracy to possess cocaine, attempted possession of cocaine, and money laundering. Commuted on June 6, 2018.

How about past Presidents?

Democratic President Barack Obama pardoned 212 people and commuted the sentences of a further 1,715 people.

Republican President George W. Bush pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 200 people;

Democratic President Bill Clinton pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 459 people;

Republican President George H. W. Bush pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 77 people;

Republican President Ronald Reagan pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 406 people;

Democratic President Jimmy Carter pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 566 people, and in addition to that pardoned over 200,000 Vietnam War draft dodgers;

Republican President Gerald Ford pardoned, commuted, or rescinded the convictions of 409 people;

Republican President Richard Nixon pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 926 people;

Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson pardoned, commuted or rescinded the convictions of 1,187 people...

Soooo, which of these Presidents seem to be the most "Pardon happy" over the recent past?

As long as they are just, what's the problem?

Whoa, wait a second! Trump said he could be the judge in his own case? As in sit on the bench and run the trial? Wow, do you have a quote for us?

Does anyone else think reflects poorly on the Presidents opinion of the American justice system? And before the whataboutism starts, yes, that applies to Obama as well.

When he reserves FINAL JUDGMENT to clear himself - yes , he is being the judge in his own case.

In that case I'll need to twitter Trump and ask if he could give me a pardon in advance, just in case I need it.

Was what he said within his Constitutional powers or not? That's all that counts, not the fits they have on the left at his every Tweet.

Do you think about the reason for having the pardon power?

"The Washington Post reported Tuesday citing the unnamed White House official".

The Washington Post and a unnamed source have about as much credibility as any of us posting on this site.

So per the Washington Post, a unnamed White House official, is communicating with the Washington Post, and has the opinion that the president is Obsessed with pardons.

Put a name on this person or it is nothing but entertainment and gossip to sell product.

Oh, but Trump is "obsessed" according to the left. He's obsessed with pardons, I tell you!
How nay in the past have made so many declarations of having the "absolute" power to pardon themselves? Why would anyone even think about something like that less they knew that they shat their pantaloons.

Barack Obama didn't issue his first pardon until December of 2010 - which was almost 2 full years into his Presidency. He also didn't start out by pardoning people to make political points -and he didn't let a reality TV star like Kim Kardashian recommend his pardons to him.

Does it really matter HOW a president becomes aware of someone deserving of a pardon? And, do you really think a President should wait until he's been in office 2 years before he pardons someone who he feels should no longer be in prison?

Fascinating.

No - it was not within his constitutional powers.
