The Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access... to the U.S. financial system by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal, despite repeatedly telling Congress and the public it had no plans to do so.

...under President Barack Obama, the Treasury Department issued a license in February 2016, never previously disclosed, that would have allowed Iran to convert $5.7 billion it held at a bank in Oman from Omani rials into euros by exchanging them first into U.S. dollars. If the Omani bank had allowed the exchange without such a license, it would have violated sanctions that bar Iran from transactions that touch the U.S. financial system.

The effort was unsuccessful because American banks — themselves afraid of running afoul of U.S. sanctions — declined to participate. The Obama administration approached two U.S. banks to facilitate the conversion, the report said, but both refused, citing the reputational risk of doing business with or for Iran.

Ben Rhodes bragged about making the media a bunch of suckers on Iran moderating... which the press fed to their suckers.

The Iranians fired up a new centrifuge... a month after Trump nixed the “deal”... but I thought the “deal” ensured their nuke capacities for a decade and would’t be easily reconstituted.

Talk about a bunch of liars.

Ben Rhodes, the deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, told the New York Times magazine that he helped promote a “narrative” that the administration started negotiations with Iran after the supposedly moderate Hassan Rouhani was elected president in 2013. In fact, the administration’s negotiations actually began earlier, with the country’s powerful Islamic faction, and the framework for an agreement was hammered out before Rouhani’s election.


The distinction is important because of the perception that Rouhani was more favorably disposed toward American interests and more trustworthy than the hard-line faction that holds ultimate power in Iran.

Possibly. Although I'd suspect the DC Elitist swap would insist on a Pardon. And if not fro this President, stall until the next one is elected to get it.

I'd hazard a guess that right at this moment there's not enough known about the entire thing to make a decision of whether criminality was part of it or not.

The same time that Obama himself and his admin were publicly asserting 'no sanctions lifted' and 'no license for financial system access' they were moving to do exactly that. Duplicitous in the extreme, it would appear.

Oh so typical of the Obama administration; just like 'you can keep your doctor' and 'it'll cost less'; Fast and Furious; IRS scandal; the list goes on and on from this supposedly 'scandal-free' administration

Note: Scandals still count as scandals even if the politically biased 'news' (political propaganda) media is

Yes, yes, I know, Trump lies. But if you look, most would appear to be of little consequence, and Obama lied like that as well, as does every politician.

After the Left lost their minds when Trump cancelled Obama’s “deal” with Iran, I guess the silence from the Left about how they were duped into believing it was a good deal... is understandable.

It seems the Obama “deal” and his dealings were based on frauds, fabrications and giving Iran everything they could have dreamed of and more.
 
Biggest mistake letting this dude give Iran all that laundered money to build nuclear arms and then some. Down the road we are going to pay for all of this and our great grand children will suffer.
