Two companies suspend ads from Samantha Bee's show after vulgar remark about Ivanka Trump

At least two advertisers say they're suspending ads from comedian Samantha Bee's television show.
The backlash follows the latest episode of TBS's "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" in which Bee called first daughter Ivanka Trump a vulgar name.

Autotrader said in its statement that Bee's comments were "offensive and unacceptable."
"As a result, Autotrader has suspended its sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," the company said.

When asked if Autotrader planned to resume airing ads on "Full Frontal" in the future, a spokesperson said: "We will not run Autotrader advertising on Samantha Bee's show moving forward."

State Farm said in a statement that it has "asked TBS to suspend our advertising in the program and are reviewing any future placements. We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values."

I didn't see another thread about this here, to my surprise, unless I missed it?

Anyway, how dumb is this woman to do this the day after Roseanne was canned? Incredibly, as of this writing, this vile piece of garbage still has a show. I guess it's okay to attack Trump's daughter in this way, but not someone on Obama's staff. I wonder what would happen if she called Malia the "C" word? Probably a beheading.

Who the hell is Samantha Bee? Is she worth the Troll Army's time?

If we were decent people we would not let those who control great wealth do the deciding upon who can talk.

Ok, so there's this thing called racism. It's where white people pretend that they are a superior race to other people of certain nationalities and skin colors. It's a very bad thing that justified slavery, oppression, genocide, murder and terrorism. When white people compare black people to animals, it evokes racism. Racism is bad, mmk? Just want to be clear about this, because some people seem to be very confused on this issue. Being racist is not just a matter of insulting someone. When a white woman calls another white woman a c***, it's just an insult.

Re: Two companies suspend ads from Samantha Bee's show after vulgar remark about Ivanka Trump

It's certainly their right.

But the premise is that Bee's comment was equivalent to Barr's, one that is seriously discussed only because we tend to allow racists to control the definition of what is and isn't racist.

Its actually worse than the mainstream is reporting. She also said "Trump likes you. Why dont you wear a low crop top and change his mind?" She called her a daddy slut on live TV.

Re: Two companies suspend ads from Samantha Bee's show after vulgar remark about Ivanka Trump

She's another comedian that thinks being vulgar is funny.

No she isn't. Vulgarity is simply one element of humor in that it is a tool in pushing the social envelope. Whether that pushing of the envelope punches up or down, or if it is ironic or makes an important social or political statement, are all crucial factors.

But please, let's not buy into the narrative created by racists that racist comments that demean entire populations are the equivalent to vulgar statements directed solely at seats of power. The difference is not subtle.

Wrong. Racism isn't exclusive to white people. Just look, for example, at someone like Louis Farrakhan and the people who support him. And it isn't always based on feelings of superiority. Progressives keep telling us that "racism equals hate," and yet there is nothing "hateful" about feeling superior to someone when it's factual, I mean, unless one believes that all cultures/civilizations/nations that ever existed on this planet contributed equally to human progress. There is nothing "hateful" about that, and it isn't pretending. It's just a belief, but one based on observation and not fantasy.

I'm still trying to figure out why "everyone's" so irked over Ivanka being called "feckless." It's not a complimentary adjective, but it doesn't strike me as inherently vulgar.

The only thing I'm confused about is this notion that only racist insults are a problem. Barr insulted VJ in vile way, Bee insulted Ivanka Trump in a vile way, yet only one can rationally be condemned? Has "but it wasn't racist" become some sort of preemptive absolution to the consequences of someone's speech?

So it's not racist to feel superior to someone of a different race because it's just true?

That's an interesting question. If Barr had called Jerrod the c-word in question, would her show have been cancelled? I truly don't know.

I don't think race has much to do with progress. It's more about culture and circumstance, such as whether a leader believes in enlightenment or just having as many concubines as he wants. At a time when my "white" ancestors were running around Northern Europe in loincloths, the "yellow" Chinese were building a great civilization. For anyone, regardless of race, to make note of Chinese superiority at that point in time isn't racist or hateful. It's just an observation.

Are you admitting to being a white supremacist? It kinda sounds that way.

While I agree that some cultures are superior to others, cultures do not equal race. While different cultures did spring up in different races (mainly due to the same reason there are different races to begin with, geographic location). Culture is merely a set of values or preferences held within a society, race does not prevent one from assimilating within that culture.

Bee's comment is much worse because she said hers during her work. I would have a major problem if Bee's show had been cancelled because of a tweet during her personal time. Rosanne's might have been more offensive (if that's even a thing, its either offensive or its not) but it was on her personal time and not in the course of work.

Hers (bees) were also premeditated and approved of by several people in order to be aired.

Nice hat Cardinal, good for talking through. While you are pushing those punch-packing envelopes.

I have no idea where Ms. Bee got her material from.....
