Chinese coast guard ships seen near Japan-claimed Senkaku Islands

Correcting you is getting to be a habit I'd never wanted to begin with....

I quote the news article for your third reading....

Vice-Minister of Defense Tomohiro Yamamoto said these marines would be trained to “counter invaders on the nation’s frontiers.” “Given the increasingly difficult defense and security situation surrounding Japan, the defense of our islands has become a critical mandate,” he said.

I quote my own posting for yet another reading by you....

The new Japan Ground Self-Defense Marine force is modeled on the USMC Marine Expeditionary Unit which is capable of being deployed by sea and air to locations distant from the homeland. Namely, the Senkaku islands. The Japan Marine unit has specialized in retaking islands seized by a foreign armed force.

No one has said anything about Japan "invading fresh territory." No one except you. Which further points out that both sophistry and superficiality make a bad concoction. All the same I do have a spectacular opportunity in your posts and replies to call out the vacuous nature of the sophist critics. So thx and keep on bicycling.

Indeed, and the United States of America has no "Department of War" so that means that the United States of America has never invaded any country since the "War Department" was replaced by the Department of Defence.

Oh sure.

There are those who think that until the United States of America gets a normal big country government it will continue to demand compliance to its 200 year old model of commercial dictatorship. It will continue to be aggressive and belligerent, revanchist and irredentist in promoting its values and that the Americans have had absolute contempt and disrespect of every other country's form of government since they first heard about it existing afar from 'em such that the Americans are the true believers in autocracy, oligarchy, elitism, and economic dictatorship.

The reality of it is that some people don't seem to understand that "I don't care what you do, I just don't want to do it your way." does not mean the same thing as "I'm going to come to your country, enslave all your men, rape all your women, eat all your children, and kill all your animals.".

The economy of the United States of America (and the US isn't alone on this point) has a vested interest in achieving the situation where

“The war, therefore if we judge it by the standards of previous wars, is merely an imposture. It is like the battles between certain ruminant animals whose horns are incapable of hurting one another. But though it is unreal it is not meaningless. It eats up the surplus of consumable goods, and it helps to preserve the special mental atmosphere that the hierarchical society needs. War, it will be seen, is now a purely internal affair. In the past, the ruling groups of all countries, although they might recognize their common interest and therefore limit the destructiveness of war, did fight against one another, and the victor always plundered the vanquished. In our own day they are not fighting against one another at all. The war is waged by each ruling group against its own subjects, and the object of the war is not to make or prevent conquests of territory, but to keep the structure of society intact. The very word "war," therefore, has become misleading. It would probably be accurate to say that by becoming continuous war has ceased to exist. The peculiar pressure that is exerted on human beings between the Neolithic Age and the early twentieth century has disappeared and has been replaced by something quite different. The effect would be much the same if the three superstates, instead of fighting one another, should agree to live in perpetual peace, each inviolate within its own boundaries. For in that case each would still be a self-contained universe, freed forever from the sobering influence of external danger. A peace that was truly permanent would be the same as a permanent war. This--although the vast majority of Party members understand it only in a shallower sense--is the inner meaning of the Party slogan: WAR IS PEACE.”

1948 - George Orwell.

A lot of us have read Orwell and some of us have taught Orwell to include the 1984 novel. Orwell has a lot to say and his writings are engaging in their sensibility. Orwell was of course a clerk in British Imperial India and Burma. More than anything else Orwell was an anti-communist which is good. It's often the case however that superficial sophists take Orwell and try to use his works for their own marginal purposes. Orwell in his essays wrote also about his prep school in merry old England and some of the dork boys who were always being picked on and laughed at.

The military has their characters too.

Let's look now and instead at some of Japan's finest. In this case we visit the Ground Self-Defense Force (Army) Military Technical High School. It is the only government military high school in Japan.

The 300 cadet academy is in Yokosuka on a peninsula at Tokyo Bay. It is an four year all boys academy of ages 15-19. Ninety percent of the grads make a military career of it after having gone on to graduate the JSDF National Defense Academy. With 4500 applicants annually this high school academy is one of the most competitive and selective in the world.

The review this day is for an academy graduate now Army colonel who remains a hero for his role in Tsunami rescue operations. As a captain he led his relief force in hell and high water to break through and evacuate thousands of residents of a stricken city on the coast.

The cadet corps is organized as a regiment with a cadet colonel commanding. He is the "Chief Cadet." The cadet colonel leads off the review with his regiment staff of cadet ltc and the regiment colors -- Red for Army. These boys are the 4.0 across the board all-stars. There was rarely any doubt where these boys would be in their year 4 at the academy.

The regiment has three battalions each commanded by a cadet ltc who has a three member btn staff of cadet majors. Each btn has three companies. Each company is commanded by a cadet captain who is the only officer of the company. The front rank of each company has the cadet nco marching at sling arms. Cadet nco run the company for the cadet captain so the nco do the care, feeding and asskicking of each cadet in his charge. The cpy cmdr is responsible for the performance comprehensively of each cadet in his command to include of course the cadet nco. It's also the case that at the age of these boys your company is your family and your nco is essentially your older brother.

Btn designation: 1 Btn Gold.....2 Btn Red....3 Btn Blue. Notable is that 3 Btn marches without firearms or sword. Each of the three companies in 3 Btn Blue marches with its computer case as these are the technocrats. 3 Btn Blue first company are cyber and electronic warfare, IT, AI, satellite, space and nuclear. Second company of 3 Btn Blue are pre-law cadets who will be military lawyers and know the laws of war. Third cpy of 3 Btn Blue are pre-med cadets.

Cadet officers who command cadets directly bear the traditional sword. These are rgt cmdr, btn cmdr, cpy cmdr. Cadet officers who do not command cadets, such as staff of Rgt or Btn bear the sidearm. Flag bearers are issued the sidearm given their hands are busy ha. Once the band is in its play position across from the reviewing platform it plays the standard JSDF military tune for all its forces, Battotai Mache,or in English, Battalion March.

Let's do justice to the cadets and the cadet corps at the Japan Self-Defense Force National Defense University. That is, Academy. It's where cadets spend four years to become officers. NDU academy puts all three armed services corps of cadets in one institution. The idea which is successful by all accounts is to minimize interservice rivalries. The academy is in Yokosuma on a peninsula at Tokyo Bay and is ranked by most assessing bodies as among the ten best military academies in the world.

Japan National Defense University Cadet Brigade of the Air-Self Defense Force Passes in Review

The 64th anniversary of the Japan National Defense University, November 2016 celebration and honors weekend at the academy. This review is for the minister of the Air Self-Defense Force. The three-day festivities honored one of the three services cadet brigades on each day.

The academy's 3000 cadets are organized into three service brigades: Army cadet brigade, Navy, AF. Each service brigade consists of 1000 cadets. (The "brigade" is really a regiment by normal principles but almost everywhere in the world the traditional brigade classification continues in use.) Each brigade has four battalions. Each battalion has four companies. Each company has three platoons. The brigade of cadets commander is the Chief Cadet and has the rank equivalent of cadet colonel. He has a brigade staff of four ltc. Each btn is commanded by a cadet ltc who has a btn staff of cadet majors. Each company has a cadet captain commanding and three cadet lieutenant platoon commanders. All cadet officers are year 4 students (senior year of course).

Btn designation: 1 Btn Red....2 Btn Blue....3 Btn Green....4 Btn Azure. Cadet officers who command cadets directly bear the traditional sword. Staff officers of bde and btn are issued the sidearm. Company officers are chosen and assigned for their interpersonal skills, abilities and talents and the cpy cmdr has extensive duties, responsibilities and he has decisive command authority over his company. Staff officers are chosen and assigned based on their technical skills and abilities to support the commander.

Some of the inside baseball that pertains to the parade and video is that the academy cuts some corners on who marches where and in which battalion. That is, early each year cadet officers and academy faculty officers need to identify the new cadets who are best at drill and ceremony and marching and maneuvering. The best at it get assigned accordingly. Specifically, the best at this are assigned to companies 1&2 of 1 Btn Red, and to companies 3&4 of 4 Btn Azure. The idea of the academy is to have the first two companies we see look like all-stars and the last two companies we see look the same to all of us. First impression and the last impression and all that. It shows. Cadets throughout the brigade are excellent at this as we can see in the video. However, the best of the best are presented as designed and to impress us most favorably.

Air Force cadet brigade also does something different in the pass in review the other two brigades do not. At eyes right each rank of each company does a slight echelon left. This is a precise and subtle maneuver designed to show all faces, to create a mass unified formation of each company in review, and to show a particular and challenging precision. The echelon left is plain and clear to see. As is its straightening out into a perfect straight line rank on the command of ready front (a single sound command in Japanese). In the camera filming we can see the cadet standing alongside the track on virtually every ready front command. This cadet marks the point at which the cpy cmdr gives the command. Here we can see each rank of each company reform to a straight rank line from its echelon left. The straightening of the rank line is to be done in no more than six paces. So we see almost every rank begin to straighten its line before receiving the command of ready front ha.

Each company flag has a two-digit number that identifies its btn number and its company number in the btn. Thus the first company flag we see has 11 in it, indicating btn 1 cpy 1. And so on in sequence: 22 is btn 2 company 2; 33 is btn 3 cpy 3; 41 is btn 4 cpy 1. The video is an official one so at the end it focuses on 43 and 44 to show us how excellent each company is. Note 43 doing its column right onto the off ramp in the closing moments of the video because no one is doing anything wrong. It's also the case that 44 shows us in its bearing, demeanor, mechanics, stride, rhythm, and unity why it is the number one ceremonial performer of the 16 companies. Note also the bde cdr and his staff peel off to also review the corps on parade which is why after each parade and ceremony the chief cadet conducts a meeting of all officers to tell 'em what he thinks of it ha.
