Trump says North Korea summit talks continue: 'Could even be the 12th'

President Donald Trump told reporters Friday he remains open to holding a summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un on June 12.

The President said lines of communication had opened between the two countries after officials said Thursday that the North Koreans had become unresponsive, leading to the planned summit's cancellation.

"We're going to see what happens. We're talking to them now. It was a very nice statement they put out," Trump said on the South Lawn before departing in his helicopter for the US Naval Academy in Maryland, where he is delivering a commencement address.
"We'll see what happens. It could even be the 12th. We're talking to them now," he said. "They very much want to do it. We'd like to do it."

Asked whether the North Koreans were playing games, Trump acknowledged they were -- and suggested he was too.
"Everybody plays games. You know that," he told reporters when asked about the ongoing talks. "You know that better than anybody."

Earlier Friday morning, Trump also hailed North Korea's statement that its leader, Kim Jong Un, is still willing to meet Trump "at any time" despite the President's cancellation of an historic summit between the two leaders.

"Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea," Trump wrote Friday morning on Twitter. "We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!"

Kim wrote: “We will appropriately respond to the Trump administration if it approaches the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting with a truthful intent to improve relations.”

He added: “But we are no longer interested in a negotiation that will be all about driving us into a corner and making a one-sided demand for us to give up our nukes and this would force us to reconsider whether we would accept the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting.”

l felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only that dialogue that matters. Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you. In the meantime, I want to thank you for the release of the hostages who are now home with their families. That was a beautiful gesture and was very much appreciated.

This was a start of the event: (spoiler, NK was the instigator of events leading to cancellation)





So NK was actually the first to broach a cancellation of the meeting and then made threats against the US. So in response Trump did something they did not expect, he cancelled. Perhaps they thought he would kowtow to them, they were wrong, but also gave them an out.....




So now NK is walking it back, asking for the meeting to continue so Trump is also willing to keep it going.

You are lamenting that he "he flat out canceled and today he’s back to “we’ll see”.. " so I assume you are upset because did not stick to the cancellation?

If he’s this indecisive he should mull it over before unleashing such chaos. What sane person decides to cancel a much-anticipated and important summit, just to contradict that decision 24 hours later? It’s insanity.
