In Latin, cum is the preposition “with,” as in summa cum laude, “with the highest distinction.” To the little box on the Publix website, however, the word meant something else and its strict algorithm, vigilant for naughty words, returned a message that said “profane/special characters not allowed.” Cum, which contains no special characters, was deemed profane.

In place of cum, three hyphens appeared, as they do for some other profanities in family newspapers: Summa ––– Laude

Looks like some people watch way too much porn. Home schooling probably didn't help either. LOL.

Not the Onion eh?

Ah the irony.

I'm not sure where home schooling comes into this but it seems that someone at Publix has a bit of a stick up their ass.

Maybe someone hasn't summa cum lately

I expect the cake maker was subject to too many Bukcake requests ( replace the c with a k and look it up online if you do not know what it means. It fits in regards to the story

Strange from a place where shopping used to be a pleasure.

This thread caused me to realize I've never purchased a cake at any point in my life.

A computer autofiltered a word from a list. CURSE YOU, LIBERALS.

Geezus. Is this a real story?

In 1984 when I graduated from college I graduated Magna Cum Laude. Do you know that at no point in the last 34 years did it ever occur to me that the second word was "profane". Maybe it's because I don't have a filthy mind.

I do. ;)

But seriously, that is retarded for them to censor that. Clearly does not mean the same thing.
