“This campaign has always been about the people of the 5th district, my home, but never about me," Parnell said in a statement. "Forty five years ago, while still a college student, I did something that I have regretted every single day since. In response to actions I feel unnecessary to specify, I lashed out and became violent with other people, including my former wife, which led to a divorce and monumental change in my life.

"These actions were inexcusable, wrong and downright embarrassing," Parnell said. "Since then, my life has been changed by a remarkable woman, two amazing daughters, a forgiving God and a career that has taught me to cherish what I have."

Paul LumanThis happenned over 40 years ago. He has paid his dues and it's time to move on, just as any other former criminal. This doesn't prevent him from running for office, just look at some we've already elected. Enough of this dragging up the distant past, it's over and done.

Question for you:

Have you ever broken an apartment building door down with a tire iron and beaten your significant other a few times in just one night?

I'm guessing your answer is no, so is mine.

Now perhaps he's changed. But regardless, he's damaged goods now and should drop out. The guy has no chance of winning at this point.

...ok.

Perhaps the debate we should be having is the difference between those that do something wrong and learn from it against those that tend to repeat less than ideal behavior never learning anything from it. I realize that opens up Pandora's Box here but do we think Archie Parnell is in the former or latter category?

Personally I believe there must be better people out there regardless.

Perhaps. However- given the recent political climate, he should have known that were this to get out, it would be massively damaging to his campaign. If a person has something like this in their past, it's going to come out eventually in a political race. And given that fact that most people aren't abusers, they're not going to be able to relate or be necessarily sympathetic.

And yeah, there's got to be better out there.

I’m curious, how would Roy Moore fit into this? Or Bill Clinton?

Bill Clinton did not “learn”. But he was held up as Democrat Party Royalty for decades.

How does Bill Clinton fit into this? Bill Clinton wasn't a wife beater.

This man in your OP is a degenerate criminal bastard and he should quit the race today. Do you think anyone would argue that?

Bill Clinton dealt with the ramifications, as he should have, and was investigated and impeached. I also would not compare a consensual affair to abuse. But Roy Moore- yes he should have stepped down from that race. This guy should, too.

Not sure either one of them really learned all that much.
