"Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has scrapped plans to give away a “Texas-made shotgun“ after a gunman used a shotgun in a Friday rampage that left 10 dead in a high school near Houston.

A spokesman for Abbott, a Republican, said Monday the campaign contest is still active, but the winner will now receive a $250 gift card.

The webpage for the contest has been changed from one featuring the governor holding a shotgun to one without any pictures, now advertising the gift card. The change was made over the weekend, the Abbott spokesman said."

What it will accomplish is avoid the backlash that would certainly have happened if they went through with it.

Most people don't realize that the reason why Abbott is in a wheelchair is because a tree fell on his head. That should tell people something.

Well, now we'll have some teachers go off the deep end, because really, most are close to being off the deep end anyway, will start shooting the kids and other teachers.

I'm way more for elected politicians moonlighting as armed security guards in schools.

What I wonder is how the hell they thought this was a good idea in the first place.

A shotgun giveaway isn’t something that would usually be controversial. Hell, even Biden has advocated shotgun ownership.

But that idiot Lieutenant Governor, he's another story. The stupid ass thinks that abortion is causing gun violence in schools, and the idiot says every school should have only one entrance and one exit.
 
Catch-22 anyway. The idea was already not wise, once the shooting happened there was no good answer.
