If he gets past the "Sore Loser" law in West Virginia, that uber red state might end up with a Democratic Senator.

Still fighting McConnell, Don Blankenship launches third-party Senate bid in West Virginia

Ex-convict and coal baron Don Blankenship says he's running for the Senate in West Virginia as a third-party candidate after he lost in the Republican primary race two weeks ago.

In a statement Monday, Blankenship said he had accepted the Constitution Party's nomination. And he again took aim at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell -- the man he'd called "Cocaine Mitch" while maligning McConnell's "China family" -- decrying "false ads against me by a Mitch McConnell controlled super PAC" that he said cost him the Republican nomination.

West Virginia has a "sore loser" law that prohibits candidates who lose primaries from running in general elections.

A source familiar with Blankenship's plans said Blankenship will try run with a minor party affiliation and argue the sore loser law was poorly written.

He's got the money to do so, so let him; it is his right to do so. I don't see anything wrong with or problematic about the fact of his doing so. The man wants to be one of WVa's U.S. Senators, and the only way for him to accomplish that is to run for the office.

Um...Living up to that sore loser name huh?

That there’s a “sore loser” law is the most amazing thing about that article.

The guy is wasting his money and time but it's his money and time. Sometimes it's fun to watch stupid people in action.

I'm at a loss here:

Why would a candidate that loses a primary, be barred from running as an Indie or with another party?

It has to be the parties that instated this rule, buying off the legislature. This law seems to fly against the heart of the democratic process, because it puts the parties in control of the process.

Agreed.

This would seem to strike directly against the democratic process, taking the power away from individual citizens, and placing it within the parties. It makes no sense.

Can that even be Constitutional?

Wow, that sore loser thing is a pretty crappy law and squarely benefits both Republicans and Democrats...

Hmmm... I’m betting that this law has something to do with the China People... Perhaps even specifically McConnels China Family...

Many states accomplish the same result by having simultaneous registration dates for the primary and the general election.

"China family". Geezus, this asshole was more cuddly when he was killing miners.

I didn't know we had a sore loser law. One of the many reasons I'm glad I don't live in West Virginia.
