Stormy Daniels: Trump discloses payment to reimburse lawyer - BBC News

US President Donald Trump has officially disclosed his reimbursement to his lawyer for a payment to a porn star to hush her claims of an affair.

The Office of Government Ethics found on Wednesday that Mr Trump ought to have revealed the payment in his previous financial disclosure.

The filing shows he paid back Michael Cohen for a 2016 expense of between $100,001 (£75,000) and $250,000.

Mr Trump previously denied knowing of the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

The expenses documentation is missing....we dont know what this nebulous sum reimbursed Cohen for.

I have heard that the BBC has suffered a great decline in journalism standards.

The form on which the footnoted disclosure appears doesn't require that level of detail.

I have heard that the BBC has suffered a great decline in journalism standards.
What has that do with the disclosure?

The key, criminal, detail is this:
  • Periodicity: Trump owned the debt in 2016 and didn't report it as an unpaid liability on his 2016 filing.
For that reason, the FEC filed a criminal referral of the matter to the DoJ.

Quite simply, Trump had all of 2017 and part of 2018 to file an amended 2016 FEC statement of assets and liabilities and he did not avail himself of the opportunity to do so.

President Trump lied about knowing about any payment, and then lied about making the payment. It is on video. It is what it is.

I don't know that he lied to anyone whereby it's a criminal offense to lie to them. That said, his lying publicly about the matter may be usable as part of a prosecutor's assertion with regard to mens rea. That is, to my mind, the bigger problem with Trump's having misrepresented facts and/or context in a public setting, such as to reporters, in campaign speeches, etc.

BBC has? As opposed to what?
BBC is about as reliable as high-profile media outlets get. Them and CBC and, oddly enough, unless something's changed, Al Jazeera.

I know. Did he know he was lying when he made the statement or did he believe it when he said it. That is a skill that the man has mastered. He is a slippery SOB. But, I am of the opinion, that he always has an out, a fall guy, an excuse. And because of that he just says whatever he needs to say at the time, because he can always blame it on someone else later.

And then there are those suspicious 2 SARs missing from the database...

was there not an annotation which explained the information was provided to be compliant with the expectations of the white house ethics office
it would then seem the ethics office file on this matter would offer explanation

There might somewhere be proof that this money was used partly or all on the porn star but I get the idea that the BBC has not seen it, if so they should not be claiming this as fact...it is speculation....a difference that matters.

And the OGE is referring that 2017 payment disclosure to the DOJ. That means it's a criminal referral since it was omitted from his 2016 disclosure, knowingly and willfully.

That’s big.

Missing Files Motivated the Leak of Michael Cohen’s Financial Records

I’m guessing it was the SDNY who removed it. Probably because of historic level malfeasance.

This is starting to look like a Manchurian Candidate situation.

Members of the House Financial Committee asked the Treasury Secretary in January of this year if anyone in 45-world had asked him to obstruct, destroy or obscure financial records. Sec. Mnuchin never responded to the request of the members.
