Two organizations are expected to announce a lawsuit challenging a new Iowa law that bans most abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

Iowa affiliates for Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union said Monday they'll make a joint announcement Tuesday afternoon. They declined to provide more information.

The law, set to go into effect on July 1, bans most abortions in Iowa once a fetal heartbeat is detected. That's around six weeks of pregnancy, making it the strictest abortion regulation in the country.

The groups warned shortly before Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the law on May 4 that they would challenge its constitutionality. Reynolds and GOP lawmakers with majorities in the Legislature also indicated they expected the law to face litigation.

This is insane. Most women don't even know they're pregnant at 6 weeks:

For most women, the first sign of pregnancy is when your menstrual period doesn't arrive on the expected date. When your period is late and still doesn't come after a few days, it might be a sign you're pregnant, providing you've been sexually active. However, there are several factors that might conceal your pregnancy, even at six weeks pregnant.

There is a reason the 24 week law was passed. I suspect some anti-abortion fanatics will get their 20 week law passed due to technology, but this one is ridiculous. The insane part is if this passes, I suspect abortion in the state to actually increase because it will put pressure on the woman to act quicker than maybe she would normally.

This just comes down to religious BS. I'm tired of it. Not one religious person can tell me what their life was like before birth or in the womb. They also cannot say that they live on after they die.

Just FYI, I was raised in a very religious famlly. I went to church three days week. But deep down, I knew it was all just bunch of crap. My first clue was when they said gay people were evil.

Does that mean you agree or disagree with this law?

You: This is insane. Most women don't even know they're pregnant at 6 weeks

Me: We Americans are a sadistic bunch.

This you cant follow?

Sorry, what are you looking for, hawk?

I asked you a question, do you agree or disagree with this?

Just spell out your opinion. I'm not here to read your mind.

While I do support banning abortions after a certain time this goes a little overboard IMO.

I am pro choice, but believe that 5 months for her to make up her mind is reasonable, so the 20 week law doesn't really bother me.

But what about 6 weeks?

I personally am damn sick of guys weighing on this with no consideration for women.

This is not up to you to make a determination as to what she is doing to make up her mind. That's up to her.

And it is ONLY up to her. She is the one bearing the responsibility. You guys clearly are not worried.

I prefer to see bans under 20 weeks. Preferably in the 12 to 16 week range.

I prefer to see no bans. Tell me your memories in the womb. Did you talk to your mommy? I sure didn't.

My mommy **** on me because I turned out gay.

I'm sure god meant it to be that way though...

Glad we don't go with your opinion in this issue. Just to clarify if you wouldn't like any bans you would be ok aborting a fully formed human hours before delivery or is that abortion something you would ban?

That was never the argument. Try again.

But while we're talking, tell me about your memories inside your mom. I bet you had conversations and just loved her to death, right? What did you say to your mom before you were born? Can you tell me?

Of course it is insane. Insane is spelled R-E-P-U-B-L-I-C-A-N or c-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v-e.

Because I don't remember them doesn't mean it never happened. Lots of things happened in my early life I can not remember.

It sucks about your mom. But because you got a ****y hand you feel ok in denying other lives an opportunity to live and see how there life turns out?

I'm sure god meant it to be that way though...

No point in arguing what something or someone who may or may not be could of meant.

Aww, so what other people told you made up for your lack of knowledge.

Umm no, it just means that your elders are not always smart.

Actually, there is a biblical argument to what you posted. Adam did not become a living being until he took his first breath. Also, in Exodus, which is where God's law was laid out, murder is punishable by death, but causing the destruction of the "fruit of a woman", aka, a fetus, is merely a fine to be paid to the woman's husband. Yes, the bible does not equate a fetus with a living being, but as a fruit which can produce a living being. The being does not exist until birth, and the taking of the first breath. This is according to the Bible.

I disagree it is the woman’s body and fully the woman’s choice. I don’t care if it’s 4 weeks or 9 months. If the fetus can survive on its own without the mother then remove it from the womb and let it takes its chances. I will never be against the mother choosing what to do with her own body.

A devils advocate question;

What are your views on children born with birth defects because if alcohol or addicted to hard drugs? Should we have laws to protect the unborn child and punish the mother or is taking those substances and harming the unborn child still her choice?

Their constituents should be pissed at the wasted time and $ on completely illegal legislation.

Irresponsible pandering.

It wont stand.

Who would? Nobody. But there's no reason to even worry about it, since it doesnt happen. Elective abortions dont occur late term.

So the hyperbolic, over-the-top attempt at argument is wasted.
