China Contributing $500 Million to Trump-Linked Project in Indonesia

Mountains out of nothingburgers...again.

There is no indication that the trade negotiations between the Trump administration and the Chinese government affect this previous Trump deal.

You just keep believing that...

Did anyone actually read the article?

The Chinese government is extending a $500 million loan to a state-owned construction company to build an Indonesian theme park that will feature a Trump-branded golf course and hotels.

A loan isn't bribery...lol

Yes Trump the Munificent has such concern for the lowly Chinese workers.

Do you think Trump is going to personally benefit from the capital the Chinese government has provided to build a theme park with the Trump Organization?

I have no idea. Can you prove he will?

Oh, Ikari was most likely pre-empting predictable responses form the right in this forum. It'll happen, just give it a minute.

They are still busy with the "distractions" of leaving the Iran deal and moving the embassy. Nothing to see here because Trump is a "world leader".

Yep, he knew they wouldn't do a damn thing to stop him. This is insane. I never thought I would see something this bad happen in the US. Clearly, I was wrong. And no one will do a damn thing about it.

Being from a conservative republican family in Det., Mich. during its heyday, had a mother who worked for Geo. Romney, run for governor. (Mitt's father)
Then reading Buckley, Will etc. I see the right (repubs) having gone from being the progressive party for 80 years, turn with FDR, into rent-seeking corporatists.

This is just the latest and not even most egregious example.

ZTE under 7 year sanctions from purchasing US products was effectively bankrupted
Now China - State firm, money from the PRC - invested in a theme park where Trump branded a Hotel and Golf Course are part of the deal.
Now tell me this does not have a clear perception of a trade off?

I need to correct you: China extended a $500 million loan to Chinese state-owned construction company building the theme park in Indonesia, not to the park itself. From the article you yourself cited:

The Chinese government is extending a $500 million loan to a state-owned construction company to build an Indonesian theme park that will feature a Trump-branded golf course and hotels.

A subsidiary of Chinese state-owned construction firm Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) signed a deal last week with the Indonesian firm MNC Land to build an “integrated lifestyle resort,” as part of Beijing’s global influence-expanding “Belt and Road” infrastructure initiative.

The project will include a number of Trump-branded hotels, a golf course, and a residence. While the $500 million loan will not be directly allocated to any of the Trump-branded features, Beijing’s contribution of half the project’s total operating budget ensures the success of the broader theme-park venture.

Does it create the perception of a trade off? Maybe. But certain questions have to be asked: Was the project stalled, or was it doomed without Chinese construction companies (heavily subsidized by their government) bidding for the contract to construct the park? How much does Trump stand to lose if China pulls its funding and/or the construction company pulls out?

Because if the Trump administration engages in a Trade War with China, in spite of his possibly risking the loss of a colossal amount of money on this project, then I cannot see how he was acting with impropriety or being controlled or influenced by China's activities.

Or emoluments. Either way, it's corrupt AF. We're not used to corruption being this out in the open.

It's pretty incredible. Doubt that his supporters will bat an eye, though.

So the loan is NOT going to any of the Trump branded features.
Oh what a shock, looks like another smear job?

a theme park with a trump branded hotel and golf course.

if the theme park never opened, trumps hotel and golf course would never see a profit.

I have no idea. Can you prove he will?

He is doing it for free, all licensing fees for the Trump Name will be given to ZTE workers to make up for their temporary loss of income due to 7 year sanctions lasting approx 1 or 2 months. My how 7 years can fly.

Do you think Trump is going to personally benefit from the capital the Chinese government has provided to build a theme park with the Trump Organization?

A loan can very easily be bribery. China: "We ll do this Mr. Trump, if you layoff with the damn tariffs." "We'll do this Mr. Trump, if you layoff KJU and NK."

Trump in any way being in this deal...is defacto bribery.

So the loan is NOT going to any of the Trump branded features.

The Chinese Govts. 500 M guarantees the project goes forwards, the other 500 M is from other investors.
That means they own 1/2 of everything.

a theme park with a trump branded hotel and golf course.

if the theme park never opened, trumps hotel and golf course would never see a profit.

Indeed. But again, that raises the question: When the project was originally imagined, was it originally figured that the only companies who would be able to construct the theme park government-subsidized state-owned Chinese construction companies? If so, yes, that is a problem. If the project was doomed without their bid, then yes, it is a problem and creates the perception of self-dealing.

But if the Chinese state-owned construction company was simply one of multiple non-Chinese construction firms bidding for the contract and was only able to obtain it by underbidding the competition at a severe loss (which the Chinese government picked up through state loans), then I do not see this appearing like a trade-off.

he was known as the richest man in rome, and he tried to earn military glory like his fellow members of the triumverate by capturing the parthian kingdom.

his military campagin ended in disaster at the battle of carrahae, and he was captured by the parthians.

the parthians poured molten gold down Crassius's throat to symbolize his greed.

Oh, that was the gold-down-the-throat guy? I heard of him. Real gem, I hear.
