Mormon Church cuts ties with Boy Scouts

Women have long been scout leaders, and young women have always been eligible to be a part of the Explorer Scout programs (Explorers, Sea Scouts, etc).

The BSA as an organization has spent the last 15 years pandering to groups and people that are not involved with and have nothing to do with scouting. It has cost them the support of not just the LDS Charters but many church groups and many non religious affiliated scouters. At the end of the day....they will win the accolades of people that are not scouts and the church groups that go on to form their own organizations will also work to create successful programs. So...win win I guess? The BSA will suffer...pretty seriously. But it is their choice and their right to run their program how they see fit.

The BSA just opened their doors to doubling the potential scouts and you think that will make them "suffer... pretty seriously"?

And hey...I hope so. As I said before...the BSA has the right to make their choices. So does everyone else.

I actually have a great relationship with the girl scouts here in florida. I subcontract a lot of maintenance work of their equipment and I travel to many of their camp ground sites. They have faculties that are equally as impressive as the boyscouts. They have all the same stuff boyscouts campgrounds have. I don't see the need for girls to be infused into the boyscouts. Nor do I see any harm in keeping the two segregated from eachother.

Boys and girls both act differently when they are around the opposite sex. I think it's healthy to have some places that are exclusive to one gender. I'm curious how society is going to react if boys start applying to all girl schools and start suing them for discrimination if they are rejected or if they get in and are offended by things in the school that are female centric.

Being equals does not mean we are the same. 6+4=7+3 and they both equal 10 that's sorta how I view people. We can all be equals and different at the same time.

Junior Anti-Sex League

In George Orwell's novel 1984, an organization for young people that advocated complete celibacy for both sexes. The Party intends to abolish the institution of the family, so all children will be the products of artificial insemination and grow up in public institutions. Members wear red sashes around their waists. Julia, Winston Smith's lover, is a member of the Junior Anti-Sex League, though she does not share their ideals.

By extension, the conservative & repressive forces in society that support ideals of celibacy, virginity, purity, etc.

With both sexes as members, both with raging hormones, will there be merit badges for practicing safe sex? Various sexual perversion techniques?

They should start their own Scout program. The current Boy Scouts, (which is dropping the gender indicator) just doesn't reflect their values.

You're probably right. But I wouldn't expect any organization to continue to support something that goes against their beliefs, religious or otherwise. I do think when we have the boy scouts and the girl scouts that is exactly what they should be. Boy Scouts for boys, girl scouts for girls. This might have had more to do with the dropping than gay leaders or admitting gays into the scouts. It was probably the icing on the cake.

I think a name change is now called for, The Youth Scouts as the boy scouts and girl scouts are a misnomer.
 
The Mormans see the writing on the wall.Soon the scouts will go on a field trip too see a real abortion and the fetus cremated.It goes against what they stand for.
 
this is an unfortunate speed bump in the road of the mormon church and the BSA

the mormon church is very family-centric and has helped grow the BSA organization. in doing so, it has also exposed the positive aspects of the church of latter day saints to impressionable young men of other faiths. it will loose that (potential recruiting) exposure and access to a nationwide array of established BSA facilities while it creates its own internal infrastructure
and the BSA will lose some of its most active scouts and scout leaders. not an insignificant loss

the kids who need scouting the most are also the most underserved; kids from predominantly poor urban cultures. no group needs positive adult role models and personal development opportunities more than the kids from the inner cities. surprisingly, this is a market segment the BSA organization seems not to pursue

Yes. But just like throughout history those of pretentious values fall victim to their own greed and lust, there will be those performing only enough to get the merit badges, but not practicing thereafter. I can guarantee that religions follow all their own teachings most while at congregation and seldom elsewhere.

Depends what you consider 'progress' If you're so respectful of people's POV, then I hope you should be able to respect their POV that some things are not considered 'progress'.
