Boy regains consciousness after parents sign papers to donate his organs

No, I don’t think that was the case. I recognize that the odds were greatly against Alfie, but they were against this boy as well.

Alfie didn’t have a brain anymore. That’s different.

This makes me wonder if a baby cries during an abortion

that shows a huge amount of ignorance that can be fixed with education, should you ever pry your mind open enough to learn about it.

The answer is no.

IMO, even with a brain death diagnosis, a vegetative state, etc, as a parent or spouse, I would definitely wait a few months...people have wakened from comas and other non-responsive states. And I'd also make sure I'd gotten multiple opinions.

Altho I do believe the Drs are generally right about these things, there are differing levels of damage that can be recovered from and so-called 'miracles' do happen.

Like this one.

the kid stated he, "did not remember anything" .............. then the kid said, "I was walking in a field alone. I was in heaven."

the kid isn't a very good liar

There’s medical differences between cases like Alfie and this one that make things a lot more unambiguous.

Of course when when the subject is killed it totally becomes more unambiguous...

Or perhaps his brain filled in some blanks and/or rewrote stuff. Human brains do that.

Neither was killed, unless you mean God killed Alfie.

Doctors can even now give people "reflex suppressants" so they dont move or writhe around while removing living people's and not fully braindead people's organs.

As they surrounded his hospital bed, doctors asked the family about the possibility of donating his organs when he died, not realising Mr Fritze could also hear the conversation.

He eventually recovered after his family sought a second opinion from another medic, who quickly realized that Jimi Fritze was fully conscious and could make a full recovery.

He was given cortisone to bring down the swelling in his brain. It took three weeks before he was able to tell his story about the nightmare of hearing the doctors’ talk about selling his organs.

He has now launched an official complaint against the doctors for breaching rules by discussing organ donation before a patient is brain dead, as reported by The Local.

The Wall Street Journal recently published a shocking report about the organ harvesting industry, claiming that doctors are regularly taking organs from patients while they are still alive. New U.S. regulations allow doctors to “inject a paralyzer” if the body will not stop moving, in order to “safely” remove the organs.

Oftentimes a hospital can make more money out of a dead body, because of organ harvesting, than they can make by billing a patient whose life they have saved. This is especially true in cases where the patient does not have insurance, and will struggle to pay a hefty medical bill.

Nope...the hospital intentionally ended Alfie's life. Once he's dead it's totally 100%. Sorry the point flew well above your head.

It was already 100%. Not everything is fixable. Some people don't have a chance.

Yeah...once you’re killed it’s 100%. In this case they also thought he was brain dead and were one day from harvesting his organs when he woke up. This isn’t complicated so I fail to see why you’re struggling.

I remember there was a SNL skit about this with Steve Martin playing the doctor and I think it was John Belushi playing the dying son.

Its happened before. Where a wife sees the husband stirring and starting to act and squeeze fingers and stuff and the wife begs and begs the doctor to recheck but they refuse..... for some reason... (organ $$$$$)

Because that's an involuntary action. This mindset of waiting for a miracle and dozens of other people are going to miss out on the donated organs. Just like all the people who said Terri Shiavo was not brain dead. Autopsy revealed the truth, she was brain dead

This case doesn't even seem that bad, they were going to do further test, they didn't conclusively say he was brain dead just yet.

Happy for that teenager and his parents. Crazy that one day would have made a difference.

I will point out that the procedure is that before they do the final disconnect, they do another brain wave scan. .. but his vital signs and responses picked up, so they canceled the brain wave scan

Ya bull****. They are stealing peoples organs who arent fully braindead. (sometimes)

And I don't know why you're struggling with the idea that someone whose brain has melted isn't going to suddenly wake up.

Half of Alfie's brain was missing. The cases may seem superficially comparable but they're really not.

This is a really nice story with a happy ending. I'm so happy for the family!

"Brain was melted"? Is that a medical diagnosis? Also, people have literally had half their brain removed and lived. Oh...and they didn't think this kid was going to wake up either so...looks like it's still super hard for you to understand. Sad!

"Catastrophic progressive brain degradation." Happy now?

Not all conditions are the same. Doctors don't think someone who is decapitated is going to wake up. But they didn't think this kid was going to wake up either!

Doctors don't think Margaret Thatcher is going to wake up, but they didn't think this kid was going to wake up either!

Alfie's condition was neither localized nor stabilized.
