Republicans are panicking as internal polls show Don Blankenship, a coal baron who spent time in jail for a mining disaster that killed 29 workers, surging into the lead in the West Virginia Senate GOP primary over Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and Congressman Evan Jenkins.

The results of an internal campaign poll conducted for one rival Senate campaign on Saturday and Sunday were: Blankenship 31 percent, Jenkins 28 percent, Morrissey 27 percent.

If he wins this will be another disaster for the Republicans

We had Trump endorsing, and the Party mostly falling into lockstep to support Roy Moore, and the allegations of liking young girls, high school girls as the allegations stated.

Now a convicted Felon. Where 29 miners died.
The Democrats will have a field day with him if he wins the Primary

I heard that even Trump's clueless son rejected Blankenship publicly.

Can the voters of West Virginia be this stupid, to vote for a man who was personally responsible for the deaths of 29 innocent people? Please tell me that they aren't.

Well he is in the high 20's with registered Republican voters. Now if he wins, the Party will be scrambling

It would be political suicide for the Republicans to support this guy. I know McConnell doesn't, and I hope that doesn't change.

We can't send someone who is responsible for the deaths of 29 people to the Senate. Someone who was convicted of it, no less. Roy Moore was bad enough. This is inexcusable.

Depends upon if he wins? Trump ended up supporting Moore which the Dems will have a field day with.

This is a pattern. Republican voters actively want bad human beings to represent them.

He will win -- the GOP need to find more candidates like him -- a rich businessman who is not PC is exactly what wins campaigns -- and it doesn't hurt to have a few policy positions that hurt people you don't like -- GOP voters love that
 
He could win the primary, but he won't last against Manchin. Blankenship uses all of Trump's talking points and it goes over well. A lot of people will hold him accountable for the deaths of those miners but will they vote?
 
West Virginia gets a bad rap......Ignorant, poor, backwoods...Apparently much of that is true judging by the GOP losers running for senate...

Blue State America looks on West Virginia with pity...Theses "folks" vote against their own interests every time....I thankfully just fly over that place...Best to avoid it
