Trump deserves credit for North-South Korea summit, experts say

I'm new weighing in on this thread. What exactly has been accomplished in Korea and why does Trump deserve credit for whatever that was?

I certainly have to give some degree of credit to Trump. His incredibly dangerous rhetoric towards North Korea scared both the North and South into working things out. They, along with Japan, are heavily vested in working things out and keeping our Lunatic in Chief and his small hands off of his "big red button."

That said, if this actually does result in them calling of the war and beginning to normalize relations then you have to a give a point to Trump. Whether we like it or not, his antics had an impact on Kim. Let's see if it gets the ball over the goal line.

Interesting that CBS even reported it like this. Hopefully, it all results in a positive long-term outcome.

Trump deserves credit for North-South Korea summit, experts say

President Trump is hailing an agreement between North and South Korean leaders in their historic summit, tweeting: "KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!" On Friday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to work toward denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and declaring a formal end to the Korean War by the end of the year.

National security experts, and even the South Korean foreign minister, are crediting Mr. Trump for bringing North Korea to the table.

"I think the president deserves credit for getting us this far. No president has put as much pressure on North Korea as Donald Trump has, and that's a good thing," CBS News senior national security contributor Michael Morell said Friday on "CBS This Morning." Morell spent more than three decades at the CIA, becoming the deputy and acting director. But he said the outcome of the Kim-Moon summit was "not surprising."

Trump had nothing to do with it

Yes I agree that results actually matter but it does appear to me that more progress is being made now than during prior Administrations including GW Bush. The actual results will determine the actual success but to attack Trump at every turn shows just how radical the left is as no one truly understand their goal and their ideology

By and large I think a part of it is just a primal reaction to his general demeanor and how he expresses himself that gets reactions going; most people don't like jerks. He could have the solution to world hunger and he'd still piss people off. A general life rule is don't be a jerk, and time will tell how much this hampers or helps him in his relationships with other leaders.

This thread is a hoot. No way, no how, nada, credit to Trump. It will be a cold day in Hell when liberals give Trump credit for anything. But watching the liberal spin on this one is Hiiiilarious !!! :) :)

So should Trump get a Noble Peace Prize if he pulls it off? Barack got one for doing absolutely nothing. I mean, if they are giving them away, maybe Trump could have one if there is a North Korea deal. You know, the old fashioned kind; one that is earned. Just sayin'

Oh Digsbe...

I'm sure those tweetonium bombs really hit their targets :lamo

You're becoming quite the Republican Sycophant.

I don't like some of Trump's blunt tweets, but you have to admit there is a seething mouth foaming anger and unrelenting bias against Trump out there that seems rather unchecked and rarely questioned. Obama won a peace prize for literally not being a Republican. I think Trump's hard stance on North Korea has played a role in the coming peace. People tend to change when the ultimatum is "continue on your current warpath and die."

Yep, that definitely is the problem but the reality still is that results matter and the world isn't a very nice place. Worked for a lot of jerks in my career over 35 years, some never got positive results and were fired, others got positive results are succeeded. Being a leader isn't about being popular as it isn't American Idol and the sooner some of these people see that the better off they will be. Most will survive a jerk with results but many will never get over their hatred based upon nothing more than rhetoric and baseless charges. You can hate someone and still celebrate successes and I don't see that here. The economic and foreign policy results are strong yet some cannot get past the Trump personality and that is sad. I don't like Trump at all but I didn't vote for someone in a popularity context and I am getting exactly the results I had hoped for.

Just sayin? Read post 311 and the post I responded and post 310. Are you one of those people?

There is so much unknown as to how this will work out.
Will Americans keep a base in Korea?
Can you really trust Kim Jong-un's word?

Would love to know what the average South Korean thinks about this deal.

While this will obviously be spun as a success for Trump (and politically speaking the GOP would be foolish not to), the success here is all Un's.

He was finally able to take on international leader status, got the United States to treat him like an equal, got the full pomp and circumstance treatment from South Korea without the involvement of the US, and all while keeping his nuclear program. There's also almost certainly the possibility of moving back sanctions.

But my primary concern is people not getting nuked. If countries don't nuke each other, then I will put that as a check in the win column.

If it was so easy why didn't Obama do it?

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a committee of has-been and never-was-much Norwegian politicians. It has never been 'earned' in any meaningful sense. The Peace Prize committee has included Communists in the past and may still do so for all I know - or care.

Sure, and I won't have an issue giving credit where credit is due. The difference is I will wait and see what the final out come of the talks are and understand the extent of Trump's involvement in helping Moon Jae In before agreeing on how much credit he deserves; it's a standard I apply to all leaders regardless of whether I agree with their policies or not. I think most of us have worked for jerks at some point or another, and while results matter, how we achieve them is just as important because it sets the standard for others on how they may model their path to success. For many people (myself included), it's hard to see someone using crass and divisive tactics being rewarded only because it then makes those tactics a viable way of achieving your objectives. No, the world isn't a nice place but we should strive for better than what it is.

The biggest benefit so far, is Kim has not tested an atmospheric nuclear test. That was a red line, as was trajectory testing a non nuclear test payload.

So there is that. So here we are wondering. I suspect China's 2024 Initiative is important enough to them to put NoKo on the back burner for now.

I'm sorry to say that the sad sacks of the left here would gladly be immolated in a nuclear flash than give Trump an inch of credit.

Fair enough, too bad the radical left cannot celebrate any good news and has no clue as to the actual results or even how to find them. they seem to rely on the media to provide them. Results actually matter, rhetoric doesn't

That's not what the media said when Obama got the prize. Then it was a big deal. But I see your need to denigrate it's significance just in case Trump gets one.

A credible threat of military force combined with maximum sanctions and getting the UN to approve this.

President Trump worked with President Xi to further pressure North Korea.

If it was so easy why didn't Obama do it?

President Obama offered to meet with the leaders of North Korea-Cuba and Iran....Republican slobs howled in protests screaming "Appeasement!"...Did you forget already?

Uh ...trump was NO where to be found at any recent meetings...Probably why they happened

Obama wanted to meet to offer surrender terms. President Trump wants to meet to accept surrender terms.

trump hasn't "met" anybody yet......South Korea would do well to keep that preening asshole away

I will credit Donald Trump for NK peace an denuclearization to an extent once it actually happens, until then NO. Likely what we are seeing is the latest chapter in the "Lil' Kimmy Book of Lies" being unfolded and TrumpCo. is buying it so they can score points and hype up the base.
