Michael Cohen to plead the Fifth in Stormy Daniels suit

Let's let Trump weigh-in on this one:

Could someone please call a plumber? Trump, trying to drain the swamp, has gotten the line plugged solid.

Trump is doomed if he does, and doomed if he doesn't take the 5th with this crowd. And I totally agree with what you said.

Of course you cheered wildly when he babbled how terrible taking the Fifth was..Right?

I think we can save a whole lot of time if trump and his staff and associates all just get " I PLEAD THE FIFTH" tattooed on their forehead.
As well as have them carry small lamented I.D. cards of their Presidential pardons ...

Nope. In the event that you really want to know .... I've always said he's his own worst enemy, lol, besides you, of course.

Well that would make you unique...The average trump supporter No doubt sat there with a stupid grin on their face....Shouting in approval....Nobody takes the Fifth!...Now they sit there and shout...Take the Fifth!....What a joke

People that think if you are innocent, you have nothing to worry about when talking to the FBI, are living in a complete fantasy land.

That's like saying loan sharks really care about your well-being.

"show me the man, and I will show you the crime."
That works fine for the citizenry, but not what we want in government. We need transparency in governance. I see no place for the 5th in governance. If they can't answer our questions, GTFO. That goes for the President's private attorney too, as much as any of them IMO.

Why would a sitting president inject himself into legal issue in such a blatant fashion. Has Trump no sense at all of impropriety?

Good question. Why did Trump insert his large orange butt into the NFL #TakeAKnee protest? Why does he feel compelled to mock people for their looks or weight? Why does he need to tweet insults at reporters, rather than ignoring them as those who have a sense of dignity do?

Because anything you say can, and will, be used against you in a court of law. Watch this video, although it is about talking to the police, the 5th Amendment right is the same in court as it is in the "street."

Just like how when a cop asks if they can search your vehicle and you say no, they automatically say why do you have something to hide?

I the days of my misspent youth ( fond memories) I carried a card in my wallet that said something to the effect of , I under no circumstances do I give you permission to search my vehicle. And it had a spot for the badge number and the signature of the policeman.

I never had to use it as I was smart and bad motor home plates on my 69 vw bus, and as such they would have needed a judge signed search warrant to enter, the same as your house. (This was before the patriot act). I was detained for two and a half hours one time for a "low tire" but not searched...

What do you think the expiration dates on those will be?

My guess is sooner than they would like.

Cohen is a thug, a street hustler and a buffoon...If he thinks pleading the fifth will help him...He is dreaming......Soon he'll have a choice.Talk...or go to jail and get his ass beat daily...

This is fine for the ordinary citizenry. But is this what we want from those we install to govern? I say not.

(I say this while realizing Cohen technically doesn't govern, but does have knowledge & input into one who does - Trump)

What will it matter if he goes to jail? Trump will just perform one of his drain the swamp maneuvers and pardon him.

There was a time when the police could not search your wallet, or open the trunk of your car, without permission or a warrant. I would do anything to go back to the days of the Warren Court ...

I think Cohen is the crusty scum at the bottom of a scum bucket. But, he has rights that must be protected. The state has the burden. If they do their job, there will be no problem.

Here's why I feel this way: If we give in on one person's rights because we don't like that one person, or that class of people (like your example of those that govern us, or like Sen. Sanders says - rich folks, or like Rep. Gomert from Texas says - poor folks, or what the DNC would want you to think the RNC thinks - welfare recipients, etc.), then what happens to you or I when the people deciding who's rights matter and who's rights don't matter... decide that they don't like us?

So you want the 5th amendment scratched for Cohen? You do realize that attorneys are citizens and deserve the same constitutional rights as every other citizen, don't you? I don't see how affording Michael Cohen constitutional rights interferes with transparency in government. And btw, Michael Cohen is not a government official.

Agreed. If we are to remain a country of laws then we can't weaponize them against the people we don't like; it's why I have not been on the "impeach Trump" nonsense some spout readily. If there is malfeasance that warrants impeachment so be it, but it has to be pretty serious and well vetted otherwise we will set the precedent for soft coup de etats going forward.

I'll bet he's also downing a fifth .

I'll bet he's also downing a fifth .

Yeah I wouldn't doubt it. I wouldn't want to be him right now. It was better for him when he was just a background player for Trump; now that he's in the spotlight I'm sure he's looking around at all of the others who have been thrust to the forefront and their respective fates. Regardless of what happens in court, pleading the 5th sabotages him in the court of public opinion. It probably won't matter in the long run because elite clients he caters to don't care so much about brushes with the law over this kind of thing. If he takes one for the team he'll get his reward later down the line.

Cohen’s decision to plead the Fifth makes it likely the civil case by Stormy Daniels will be frozen as the FBI investigation is underway into his business affairs.

And it doesn't look good for his #1 client either...

No, it doesn't. It makes it worse for 45.

As to any testimony or evidentiary relevancy to the President, or other government officials? Yes. I don't think he should be allowed the 5th in those cases.

I place governance at a very high level of scrutiny, and hold it to a higher level of standard than I do the ordinary citizenry.

Now I realize Cohen is in a special place. He's technically not in our government. But yet he's the right-hand man of the President, and apparently privy to much of what occurs with the President as he governs. So that's why I'm not giving Cohen the full benefit, that I would give a private citizen. If he were merely some schmoe off the street, I'd fully stand behind him taking the 5th all day and all of the night.

And yeah, I know case law likely doesn't support my opinion. But it's just my opinion. If you govern and you take the 5th in relation to your governance, you should GTFO. You don't belong in governance.
