Mueller: Paul Manafort may have been Trump campaign 'back channel' to Russia - Business Insider


Prosecutors working for the special counsel Robert Mueller told a federal judge they have long suspected former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort of serving as a "back channel" between the campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

The revelation came during a hearing this week over whether Mueller overstepped his authority when he charged Manafort with crimes related to his Ukraine lobbying work and not Russian collusion.

Now it just starts to come out. I am sure when the Felonies are submitted to the courts, people are going to be more than surprised

Recent allegations have Cohen meeting with Russians in Prague after Mantafort left the campaign.

I stated that Mueller would lay more charges by NLT than mid Jun so as not to be seen as interfering in the 18 elections.

I think Cohen when he sees the charges, he will flip on Trump in a New York minute, parts or all of the case will revert to Mueller.

I expect more Felonies and some of these people will be just as surprised as the rest of us

If it came out in court, then it's now a matter of record.

Of course "suspected" and "provable in a court of law" are two different things. But if the feds brought it out, I suspect they've got more to back it up.

Considering how careful Mueller has been with statements in the court, I am sure he has more than just a little evidence. I feel this public mentioning of it is to put more pressure on Manafort, telling him 'We are ready and willing to move forward' in a bigger effort to get cooperation.

He does lose track of what his subordinates are doing for him, doesn't he? But since Manafort was a "volunteer" campaign manager maybe he had a long leash

I have a question ? Comey said he leaked his memo's to his buddy so a Special council could be appointed to look into Russia Trump collusion

Ive read those memo's. Just curious, what if anything was in those memo's that would justify the appointment of a special prosecutor ?

I wouldn't doubt it.

Just like when Mueller's crew mentioned in court fillings during Manafort's bail hearings, that they suspected Manafort of financial improprieties with his real-estate sureties, then a month or so later BAM - More charges involving fake loans on his properties.
 
It read to me like Manafort's defense was arguing that Mueller went too far outside his investigation scope by pursuing Manafort on his Ukraine dealings. Mueller's team came back saying they suspected Paul was serving as a back channel between the campaign and Russia, and pursued investigation based on that suspicion, along with his many financial and business ties to Russians and Russian interests.

Not sure it moved that puck forward on the board, or was just restating what we already all suspected about Manafort's role during the campaign.

I can't count the times I've heard "looking more and more like COLLUSION to me" and "so and so is going to flip" and all that BS. Now you liberals have filed a lawsuit against Trump's campaign and the Russians and by doing so will open up all of Hillary's files, e-mails, her server and all her actions, the phony dossier paid for by Hillary and why you did not protect the DNC server after HLS said you should. Trump will eventually be charged with many crimes - money laundering, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, etc. I don't think most of this will come out, until the Republican Primary. That way, their Party will save face, and somebody else will win the nomination.

You need to understand as a conservative you are unable to differentiate fact from fiction especially when you really want to believe something. Pleny of evidence has been found, and Mueller is a lifelong conservative republican, appointed by a lifelong conservative republican.

Paying attention is something I find to be very important.

Cohen says he wasn't in Prague at that time. Jake Tapper said it was a different Cohen.

That Trump told him to go easy on Flynn before he was fired, according to Trump's own words, in order to end the Russia investigation. This provided context for the firing, which is that Trump was actively engaging in obstruction of justice.

With the gift of 20/20 hindsight, we've come to learn that the pretext for appointing the SC was 100% correct.
