Rudy Giuliani is joining President Donald Trump's personal legal team, Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow announced Thursday.

In an interview with CNN, Giuliani said he wants to make clear that his role on the legal team will be "limited."

Giuliani told CNN his focus will be on interfacing with special counsel Robert Mueller in his Russia probe and to help bring everything to a conclusion, saying it "needs a little push."
Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including any potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion.

Giuliani, who spoke to CNN on the phone soon after news broke about his role, was careful to praise Trump's current legal team, but he said that sometimes it helps to bring on a fresh perspective.
Giuliani also noted that he has known Mueller for a long time. They worked together in the Justice Department as well as when Mueller was FBI director and Giuliani was New York's mayor.
...
Giuliani pushed back on the idea that Trump ever had any intention of firing Mueller. He said the President never gave him any indication he was considering such a move because he knows it would be "counterproductive." Dismissing Mueller would mean the investigation would take longer, Giuliani said, adding that "Bob is the best we can do" and saying he is fair.

Interesting development. Can Rudy work with Trump where others could not? There is no mention of Trump being interviewed by Mueller. There are also to other lawyers joining the Trump legal team, Jane Serene Raskin and Marty Raskin, out of Florida.

Look at the website Raskin has.

Welcome !

Holy ****! Was that webiste create in 2003 or something?

Nobody can control Trump, that's the problem. He does his own thing, regardless of whether his counsel approves of it or not, and that's why so many of them resign.

As for Trump being interviewed by Mueller, I think the latter should just go ahead and subpoena the former, as Trump has put it off long enough.

Rudy was a big Trump supporter, as I recall. This will work well for Trump, except I can't imagine how long it's been since Rudy has actually participated in legal cases.

I guess it's been a while since he attended a Trump Fan Club meeting. That isn't what the citizens of Trump Fan Nation have been saying.

undergraduate degree from Wellesley College

Hey! That's where Trump's good friend Hillary Clinton went. I wonder if they knew each other from there.

That reads like a Linkedin profile than an active legal firm's website. Yikes!

I'm curious how all these people will interact. Rudy is no shrinking violet. He can't keep his mouth shut any more than Trump can.

It seems Mueller might have already decided he didn't need to talk to Trump after Trump's team cutoff negotiations. I was curious if Rudy might have a different opinion on that.

I would think it's been a long while since he's been involved in a case like this (from the other side). IMO, Rudy is a grand stander. I don't see how he won't put his foot in his mouth with Trump. Either because his public profile becomes greater than Trump's or Rudy, and the comment you quoted is a good example, says something Trump will dislike or view as being disloyal.

I don't know - sounds like she might be a suitable lawyer for Trump. From her bio:

In addition, she has lectured on topics including trial practice, health care fraud, grand jury practice, handling complex criminal cases, money laundering, bank fraud, securities fraud and internet crimes in seminars presented by Harvard Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute, the ABA National Institute on White Collar Crime, the ABA National Institute on Health Care Fraud, the ABA National Institute on Securities Fraud, the ABA Criminal Justice Section, and the Federal Bar Association. She is the South Regional Chair of the ABA Criminal Justice Section.

Overall, this looks to be a very good day for the WH, and this also includes the breaking news this afternoon where Rod Rosenstein informed the president that he is not a subject/target of the Michael Cohen probe.
But to answer your question, Guiliani and Trump, afaik, are on the same team.

Rudy in my opinion is suspect.

He supposedly has connections with the FBI branch division in New York, the same branch involved with the leaking of anti-Comey, anti-clinton messages days before the 2016 election.

My first thought as well when my I was told this a few hours ago. Joining purely for his connections. Push the right buttons, grease the right palms, suddenly legal woes aren't so scary...sort of thing.

Funny how those leaks are not being investigated...

Guliani probably used his connections with the former head of New York’s FBi Branch, James Kallstrom

Or as Guiliani originally claimed, he got it straight from active FBI leakers, later changed to retired FBI leakers, (who presumably got it from active FBI leakers...)

Guiliani and Trump can now coordinate their stories regarding Mueller, while their discussions are protected by lawyer client privilege.

The lizard inside is still functional, but the human outer skin looks well past it's sell-by-date.

I hadn't heard much from him since that hysterical screaming performance at the RNC shoutfest...I thought he had "expired"...Yet he lives......Why?

Trump is also thinking about replacing Sessions with Rudy...

I'm not so sure that Mueller has decided he doesn't want to interview Trump just yet. It seems hard to believe that the central subject of the obstruction of justice probe, would not have to give an interview at some point, or that the probe would be complete without one.

It seems Trump is desperate for the investigation to end, and might agree to an interview to do it. That would be absolutely stupid, but Trump doesn't like the fact that everyone around him thinks he's too much of a pathological lair/big mouth to sit with Mueller's team, so it wouldn't surprise me if he actually believes he's capable of outsmarting Mueller -- which he isn't.

Speculation abounds about exactly what Rudy is going to do for Trump.

Here is one such speculation that I find interesting:

Negotiation Phase – Rudy Giuliani Joins Trump Legal Team…

Guiliani joining team to negotiate exit of Special Counsel Robert Mueller is confirmation of earlier analysis on Mueller “referee” intent. The investigative and indictment balance was always between Hillary Clinton allies and President Donald Trump.

Robert Mueller was recruited by Clinton and Washington DC allies and those within the small group; and was/is generally facilitating the investigation of Trump as leverage.

If you look at Robert Mueller from the position of trying to protect his cherished Deep State institutions from horrible Trump swamp draining…. things begin to take a more accurate context. The only way for Mueller to protect his Swamp Allies and Institutions, was to generate leverage against Trump.

Having established only political leverage, nothing factually unlawful or illegal, the Mueller investigation begins to dry up. Leverage diminishes.

Without direct leverage against President Trump, Team Mueller moved to position leverage against those Trump cares about… that’s a secondary approach; but the secondary leverage approach is fraught with public noting Mueller is on a “witch hunt”… the investigation into outlying Trump allies becomes transparent in motive. Support for Mueller erodes amid independent-minded people.

Enter Rudy Giuliani, a political and legal Subject Matter Expert – with direct knowledge of evidence held by NYPD and NY FBI field office of gross criminal conduct by Hillary Clinton. (Weiner Laptop etc) Buried by SDNY Clinton Allies.

With Special Counsel Mueller having exhausted most of his investigative leverage, Giuliani enters to negotiate Mueller’s exit and discuss his team’s path of retreat and image face-saving.

Me? I have no real idea why Rudy is joining Trump except for what Rudy, himself, has said. I'm content to wait and see.

Excellent point. That is going to be fun to watch. Rudy has been out of the spotlight. You can only milk 911 so long.

Will Trump listen to Giuliani? Only for a short while, if at all. Once - and if, and that's a bigly if - Giuliani seems to have any positive affect on Trump's standing with the investigation Giuliani is going to be out there on Prime Time, in the spotlight, as much and a big as possible. Giuliani loves it almost as much as Trump. Trump will be pissed plenty. Next the Donald & Rudy Show will fall apart.

Overall, this looks to be a very good day for the WH, and this also includes the breaking news this afternoon where Rod Rosenstein informed the president that he is not a subject/target of the Michael Cohen probe.

This was already explained to you:

Federally: last week he was told that he was not a target in the federal investigation. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...o-tell-trump-he-s-not-target-in-mueller-probe

Of course, that means nothing if one has researched the DOJ guidelines, the AG statements on not indicting a sitting President, and the general constitutional debate about whether it's even possible to indict a sitting President.

State-wise:

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told President Donald Trump at a recent meeting that he's not a target in the investigation of his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Rosenstein's comment was not about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and potential collusion by Trump associates, the source said, noting that Mueller's team had informed Trump's lawyers previously he was not considered a target at that point in the Mueller probe. The Justice Department said last week that Cohen has been "under criminal investigation" for months in New York because of his business dealings. The FBI raided Cohen's office, house and hotel room earlier this month.
