Mr. Trump made the call seeking advice from Jay Goldberg, who represented Mr. Trump in the 1990s and early 2000s. Mr. Goldberg said he cautioned the president not to trust Mr. Cohen. On a scale of 100 to 1, where 100 is fully protecting the president, Mr. Cohen “isn’t even a 1,” he said he told Mr. Trump.

I highly doubt Cohen would willingly sit in prison for X amount of years, all for Donald. If he does, well then the idiot deserves every minute of it.

The thing Trump has to worry about is the much like himself, Cohen plays fast and loose with the law.

Cohen isn't really an attorney at all. He's actually a marketer and businessman, whom has overseen many of Trump's business deals, as well function as a sort of hit-man for Trump in lawsuits, so much of what Cohen has done is linked to Trump, legal or illegal.

One of the people Cohen introduced Trump to was Felix Sater, the well known Russian fraudster that involved Trump in several financial schemes that appear to have defrauded banks, investors, and laundered money for Russian mobsters.

And Cohen is well known to have a lifelong habit of recording his life and putting it on the computers....as Trump knows....which is why Trump is said to be "apoplectic" about the raids on his lawyer.

If the investigations are a witch hunt and there was no wrong doing, then why is Trump's lawyer going on national television publicly stating that he informed Trump that Cohen will tell the authorities of crimes Trump has committed?

Cohen is a pudgy man...with soft hands...He would not do well in prison....He should talk to avoid that fate...

The $100,000 question. They are terrified of what will surface. That's why Trump has gone to airwaves, since this time, repeatedly, calling all of this a witchhunt. The problem for Trump - Mueller is undeterred by his rhetoric.

Would it be illegal?

I once had an opposing attorney to "tell on me" to the judge that I had been recording phone calls. The judge just looked at the attorney and said "SO?" The judge then went on to educate the attorney that it is not illegal in our state to record people as long as one party in the conversation is aware that it is being recorded. Naturally I had already researched all this in advance and I had assumed that most lawyers would have studied this in law school.

And his uncle owned the Brooklyn social club that became a focal point for Brighton Beach Russian mob.

I suspect it may have been Cohen that got Trump involved with the Russians in real-estate and finance, rather than the other way around. I also believe Cohen is going to go the way of Paul Manafort, in terms of criminal liability.

The guy is sunk, and the only question is:

"Will he take Trump down with him?"

It shouldn't.

By the way, attorney-client privilege does not cover either illegal activities, or any activities that are not legal in nature. Further, Cohen is not a criminal defense attorney, meaning none of their protected communications should get Trump in any trouble.

E.g. let's say Cohen worked on the Trump Soho deal. If Cohen's work was all legal, then it is protected, won't be entered as evidence into court, and couldn't be used against him anyway. However, if Cohen laundered money for a bunch of Russian mobsters at Trump's request as part of the investment deal, that is not protected, and can be used.
