WICHITA, Kan. (Reuters) - A federal court jury on Wednesday found three men guilty of plotting to bomb a western Kansas apartment complex that is home to Somali immigrants and their mosque, in a crime prosecutors branded an act of domestic terrorism.

The men, whom prosecutors described as members of a right-wing militia group, were also convicted of conspiracy to violate the civil rights of their intended victims in Garden City, Kansas.

Of course they're domestic terrorists, because they were going to commit violence in order to further their ideologically based agenda. But let's make that distinction between terrorism and mentally ill people with guns clear.

Many terroristic acts show strong overlap with depression and sociopathy. A physically healthy and unprovoked person who murders and/or commits suicide probably has serious **** going on under the hood.

Even if you want to limit the mentally ill to people who "hear voices", that doesn't mean that they can't align themselves with a political agenda. Paranoia and politics go hand in hand.

ISIS et al prey on people who are in periods of instability. You don't have to organize with them or be vetted as a responsible conspirator, just read some propaganda and declare your love for the jihad before you commit suicide like you probably would anyway. Only now, you get to go to heaven for it. Bonus points!

IMO, people that actually get into militias are a little odd. These guys were a splinter group - making them the weirdest of the weird. Props to the other member that turned them in, but the fact that these dudes felt comfortable making the pitch for terrorism, means that either A: their judgement is seriously skewed or B: people were saying some pretty messed up things in that group that only a few took seriously.

That is uncalled for, you are implying that the Federal Prisons are populated with enough Muslims to make it likely they will encounter these men should they be incarcerated.
