[R.I.P.] Former first lady Barbara Bush dies at age 92 [W:20]

Moderator's Warning:
Please don't add to the derail, this is an RIP thread. Just focus on the topic only please. Posts prior to this mod warning are still subject to moderation.

I shouldn't have replied. I reacted out of emotion. If you can delete my post please do. I don't like that I quoted him and subsequently reposted his message.

She was the first person to say she lived a magical life and how lucky she was. If there was a handbook detailing how one could get the most out of life, she would be on the cover. RIP, Babs.

Your heart was in the right place.

She saw the world, met leaders from around the world, helped shaped our country as first lady and saw her sons rise to successes that any parent would be proud of.

it is a shame when any human dies but we are all born & we will all die; everyone. Wealth, fame, a family name does not make US any different.

Barbara Bush is a McCall so she is from a family that did not have the 'average' American experience; her family was actually quite well to do.

the family never 'hurt' for any financial issue, period.

IMO it is a shame she did not pick a better 'other half' as both her husband & GW are pretty much human abominations that have served Satan nicely.

Her bad ..........

Really CS?!? You disappoint me tonight.

Tsk, tsk.

I thought her marriage and love story with Bush I was a beautiful thing.

She played a most honorable role. I will miss her. Has nothing to do with politics.

I don't expect trash like that to show up in an RIP thread.

Unfortunately we have seen it done time and time again. To mind the death of Steve Irwin was met with ridiculous slamming.

This woman was someone's mother and others grandmother and great grandmother. She has passed away , there is no need to say hateful things.

I found this quote from her that cracks me up.
“I married the first man I ever kissed,” Barbara once said. “When I tell my children that they just about throw up.”

RIP it is a loss to the family. Prayers to the family.

You often hear of stories of couples who have spent so many years together die days apart. HW is not in the best of health -- I can't help but wonder if his time is nearly up. I can barely fathom living 72 years, let alone be married that long.

Yeah, MG, they basically lived a lifetime together.

I'm not on Twitter but some tweets show up as part of search results and quite a few mention her sense of humor.

I am neither a Christian nor a person of faith any longer. But I understand that Barbara Bush was. And so I thought this might be appropriate in her remembrance.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour. What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Rest in Peace, Mrs. Bush. You were a wonderful wife, mother, and First Lady.

I remember her very, very well. She had a sharp wit and could quip with the best of them; frequently cracked up the press corps! I loved her and I loved Poppy Bush... voted for him twice (well, four times if you count his VP days). I fear we may lose him very soon now. He's been so frail for so long; without the love of his life, well... I'm sad that Barbara is gone, and I will be sad again when we lose George H.W. He was a great man.

It wouldn't surprise me, Di. After being that close for that long, it must feel like he's lost a large part of himself.

Absolutely.

Sometimes, we need to put the politics aside and just pay homage to someone who did the best they could and led their life as they thought was right. Besides, looking back through the prism of time, the first Bush family was very upstanding, and they certainly did their best to represent our American values, all differences aside.

Thank you. No idea how old that song is but the lyrics in some of the older hymns are downright poetry.

Just heard on CNN she would harass and give her family members grief if their Fitbit scores were lackluster. Eventually, they cut her off from accessing their Fitbit data.

I was always impressed that she was unapologetically pro-choice.

. GHWB was a decorated war hero, graduated at the very top of Yale in THREE years, made his own fortune, took crappy jobs (like head of the RNC after watergate and the CIA after the Church commission) for the good of the country, rather than himself

I'm not speaking from experience, thank god - but imagine the notion of killing a child in the womb when you've lost a child at age 3.

I was always impressed that she was unapologetically pro-choice.

I consider the Bush's to be the last great men to be president. Faulty, to be sure, but they put service to country above everything else. The assholes since then are of weak character.
