CNN)The FBI seized recordings President Donald Trump's attorney made of his conversations with a lawyer representing two women who had alleged affairs with Trump, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.

The recordings could prove valuable to the government's criminal investigation of Michael Cohen. The President's personal attorney is under scrutiny in part for his role in seeking to suppress the alleged affair through a hush deal with porn star Stormy Daniels. The warrant sought information about that payment along with any information that connected Cohen with efforts to suppress disclosure of Trump's alleged affair with Playboy model Karen McDougal.

The scope of what the FBI grabbed from Cohen is very interesting, especially his audio recordings of telephone conversations.

I may have to revise my Q2 prediction and push to Q3 trump impeachment. There's just too much to go through. But I mean if this was any other person, he'd be in jail by now. As they go through this stuff.

I dunno, it sounds like the FBI found what they were looking for. The tapes....the "break in"....the plumber, the fixer, the dirty trick maker....

It really is starting to look like Watergate repeating, isn't it?

Do you see Trump being able to survive all of this? Do you think he'll finish his first term? I go back and forth with this daily..

He will finish the term. Impeachment proceedings might start after the 2018 election if Democrats take a majority in the House. (a simple majority starts the process) However, a 2/3 vote in the Senate is required to actually remove a president from office. Democrats aren't getting that, well, ever, and the GOP simply will not impeach one of their own no matter how many crimes he is guilty of.

This will be an albatross around the neck of the GOP in the 2018 and 2020 elections. Trump will lose and the Democrats will be back to controlling Congress and the presidency.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me, too.

I'm on the fence as to whether Democrats will start impeachment proceedings after 2018 at all. The GOP would just vote against conviction and it would end, which might just serve to improve the GOP's standing among the dupes. "They's comin after ARE PRESIDENT!!" might even rally the dip****s in 2020.

Audio recordings of telephone conversations. Do lawyers record everything? Does that mean the other lawyer has recordings too?

i suspect that Trump will either not run for reelection, or be challenged by a real republican

I was wondering- do incumbents automatically get the nod or could someone else get the Republican nomination?

Theoretically, anybody can challenge an incumbent. One of the reasons that there was a lot of chaos is that a lot of Republicans are getting challenged in their primaries. It happens on occasion that an incumbent looses to someone for the 'slot' to run as the party representative.

I cant' remember a case where a sitting president failed to become the candidate for the second term. But there is a first time for everything

I would love to tell you that you are wrong and the Senate will convict him.
I would love to tell you that the Republican in the Senate will put country before party loyalty.
I would love to tell you you are underestimating the strength of people we disagree with politically and in the end they will do the right thing and convict this man.

I would also love to tell you I won the Power Ball jackpot and will no longer post here being too busy feeding my trio of Playboy models grapes on the beaches of Hawaii.

More like Whitewatergate you mean.

Republicans in that instance took the PR hit by the American people who gave BJ a pass on what he did while actually in the White House, some in the oval oral office, some in contemporary perjury and suborning perjury in others.

You folks can take your feeble swings, the overwhelming majority of Americans are not concerned with the sex life, especially 10 years stale, of the known playboy we elected.

Yano?

If this is allowed to be used, then attorney/client privilege for everyone is dead. Congrats leftists, you will have managed to destroy a pillar of what makes this country great. But, that was always the plan...

Dude, attorney client privilege doesn't exist when the lawyer is an accessory to the ****ing crime.

Trump straight up tweeted that none of this was privileged communication. (because he said he wasn't aware of any of this)

The payoff using campaign funds is a major campaign finance violation. Some of us care about that, even if you personally think campaign finance laws don't matter. Also, uh, there's that Russia thing.

Cantor, once a highly placed establishment Republican, lost the primary to a non politician with a couple hundred bucks in his pocket. I'd not be surprised if more of that happens. People are fed up with DC in general.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Ryan's seat.

Most of what they have on him - hush money, money laundering, Chicago taxi firm, bank & wire fraud - is not related to attorney/client. Even with his JD, they say that Cohen did very little lawyering. So take a deep breath & try to relax.

Discussions of upcoming crimes has never been covered by attorney/client privilege. If Trump and his personal attorney discussed how to pay Stormy with campaign money, that is by definition, conspiracy, and attorney/client privilege is out the window.

How could anybody know this unless it was an FBI agent leaking this information?

Wait a minute.

There is another thread in which Cohen is said to have taken out a loan to pay off Stormy.

Now you say campaign funds were used.

Which is it?

Cohen said he took out a home equity loan to payoff Daniels. But I don't think anyone but the dumbest Trump supporters actually believed that.

If it was just about the affairs, I would agree. It's not. It's about the HUSH money. Cohen has said that he paid the money. Trump denounced the entire affair. Now that's a problem. Does Cohen just give $130,000 to any woman who claims to have had an affair with Trump? Pretty obvious why the judges gave the OK for the raid.

You are underestimating the stupidity of a massive chunk of the American population.

You never know.
