NEW YORK (AP) — Eight months before the company that owns the National Enquirer paid $150,000 to a former Playboy Playmate who claimed she'd had an affair with Donald Trump, the tabloid's parent made a $30,000 payment to a less famous individual: a former doorman at one of the real estate mogul's New York City buildings.

The National Inquirer paid a doorman who had a tip about Trump having a child with someone out of wedlock, while he was married to someone else, and then spiked the story, or as Trump supporters will tell you, the tabloid paid good money for a nothingburger, so move on.

More proof that repubs don't give a **** about law and order one bit.

Wtf is wrong with you Trump sycophants?

Why would anybody care about this story?

Had this been bill Clinton 20 years ago we'd still be hearing about it from the right wing moral majority nonstop. It's not a big deal because it's a republican.

Its not a big deal because the left lowered the bar for their candidates and now the right is following suit.

Lmao, this is pretty funny. Just from recent memory Reagan, Bush II, Cruz, Huckabee, Ryan, Romney...

Another potential illegal campaign payment is my guess. Also, the national enquirer is typically in the business of printing salacious stories, not killing them. I believe this is the same thing that happened to the Karen McDougel story.

You mean while Clinton was a politician?

Maybe

Where did you get that any payment was made here other than to the doorman for this gossip?

I don’t understand your question.

It's not a big deal because it's well known that Trump has been an active man-whore for years now. This isn't news. It's just more of the same.

$30,000 for silence?.......I'd like to hear more........

A tabloid pays $30,000 for a rumor to protect a potential future story... what is hard to understand?

I think you all missed the bit about AMI and AP finding no evidence that the story was true.

Maybe payback for the years the GOP screamed how Bill Clinton cheapens the office of POS? Now the GOP have their own Fornicator in Chief.

Still where did they get the money?.......I'd like to hear more...

Where did the parent company of The Enquirer get $30k to invest in a potential story? Gee, I can't imagine, being that their pockets are full of lint 'n all.

Perspective: Last year AMI purchased the publication US Weekly for $100 million.

I don't think Trump would of survived the primaries pre-Clinton

You might be right. However, Clinton is not to blame for the choices of evangelicals and other Trump voters who have so enthusiastically ceded the moral high ground. That's on them.

I could be missing something obvious because I'm stupid and I'm not smart, but it feels like the story is half baked. We do have certain important elements, such as

*A tabloid paper known for printing salacious stories deciding to sit on a blockbuster story instead.
*The fact that this happened during an election campaign
*The CEO of AMI is Trump's friend
*The National Enquirer has done this before with Karen McDougel
*At least two of Trump's former affairs were true, the women were paid and were also made to sign NDAs
*The doorman believed the rumor (which I acknowledge is not the same thing as the rumor being true itself)

So a lot of the necessary elements are there, but the AP reporter didn't tie them all together into one airtight conclusion, which is that a)the rumor itself may actually be true, thus contradicting the National Enquirer's claim that it killed the story because it didn't have credibility, and b)that the money to pay the doorman originated with Trump.

Maybe there's something definitive here, but the reporter doesn't tie it together conclusively yet.
