(CNN)President Donald Trump is considering firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, multiple people familiar with the discussions tell CNN, a move that has gained urgency following the raid of the office of the President's personal lawyer.

Such an action could potentially further Trump's goal of trying to put greater limits on special counsel Robert Mueller.

Here we go, a replay of the infamous Nixon Saturday night massacre. First Sessions, then Rosenstein...then?

Anyone who accepts a position in this White House should fully expect to be fired for ridiculous reasons and in unprofessional ways at any time. Sessions and Rosenstein are no exception.

Mueller, Sessions, and Rosenstein should be fired. They are an absolute disgrace to this country!

If he had nothing to hide, why would he be doing this?

His behavior says this is not a witch hunt.

I'd say he has a lot to hide, not only with regard to the Russians but also shady past business dealings that could be revealed through the documents seized from Cohen.

I think everyone in government should be assigned a Special Fisherman. Every one of them will be in jail on one technicality or another.

Firing Rosenstein IMO, would be grounds for impeachment. But, I think Trump should've been impeached for firing Comey, and then admitting he did it to stop the Russia investigation. No one but Trump bots think Comey was fired for any other reason.

I also don't think firing Rosenstein would solve any of Trump's problems.

Let's see here, If I were a president about to lose the House to the opposing party, would I not only demean, disparage, and taunt the top law enforcement agency in the country, but, also prevent them from executing their day to day work schedule? Does that sound like a wise plan? I have faith that our law enforcement apparatus is dignified enough to only pursue legitimate cases, without outside influence on decision making. However, making enemies out of the entire FBI and body of U.S. attorney's is a historic blunder.

If Trump is half as guilty as he's acting, the Feds already know, and firing Rosenstein would only delay the inevitable. If the evidence is there those career attorneys and investigators are going to bring indictments.

So, let's say he fires Rosenstein.. that puts the #3 in charge of Mueller until he can find a replacement, which requires Senate confirmation, no? Who would that be? And would they do Trump's bidding like an obedient Ugandan?

The problem is that whoever Mueller reports to is the one who signs off on subpoenas, indictments, and finally the decision to send the report on to Congress. It won't be Mueller who'll be sending the report, and he's not allowed to report to the public. And if Mueller's superior does quash the investigation in this way, none of us will ever know it.

It's why if a lackey replaces Rosenstein my faith in the investigation's conclusion will be null and void.

I've long maintained that keeping Rosenstein is important. And that the Nunes memo and the McCabe firing were preceding steps to getting rid of Rosenstein, in order to replace him with Corey Lewandowski. (joke.)

Yes, I realize this. Mueller's report would normally go to the AG (recused, hence Trump's cow.), so it goes to Rosenstein. Who by all indications is not affected by politics and would follow the recommendation. However, if Trump fires Rosenstein, for another made up reason, like he has done before, that would be it, imo. We would have a mutiny on our hands. Just speculation but, come on man.

You can't just keep firing people for doing their jobs.

Rosenstein doesn't have to sign off on subpoenas or indictments. Mueller has the authority to do those things on his, but he can obtain Rosenstein's signature during major steps for obvious reasons.

The Congress gets a report regardless, and if the acting AG steps in to stop any moves by the special counsel, he must explain those decisions to the Congress in the report.

It would have to be someone who the alt right worships.

Someone who can't upstage Trump.

Someone who has political experience that Trump fans can and will appreciate.

Someone who is willing to walk into the pure **** storm that defines the Trump Administration.

Someone with a deep religious background.

She has what Trump likes.

Your tribe would impeach Trump for getting out of bed in the morning.

The left’s impeachment is the rights equlivant of killing Obamacare. Vote after vote they voted to end Obamacare. Then the R’s got the power and choked. That is what politicians do - keep the noisy ones noisy.

They know as well as anyone, it’s just bull**** for a **** eating base of noisy wankers.

Where the rubber hits the road, the only one who will dare throw it out there is the black caucus, and the vote will fail.

Can he got directly to Rosenstein? I wonder. I think he may be able to order Sessions to do it.

No, the only other argument to be made for impeachment of Trump would be violation of the emoluments clause. but, without the wrongful termination of Comey, I would be less inclined to say he should be impeached.

Link goes to a web hosting site, but, I'm sure your joke would land with me buddy.

I heard that they consider presidential power trumps cause & DOJ rules. Look what he did to Comey. And the coward never fires someone to his face.

The fact that this story is even in the news makes me think Trump might be gone soon. This is crazy.

He will not be impeached if he does go ahead with the firing. He will have gotten permission from the GOP. This is why it's critical to get the House in 2018, and put an end to his attack on our democratic & legal institutions.

A senior administration official said the White House has been discussing potential options with key congressional Republican leaders, fearful of "blindsiding them." A person familiar with the conversations says a top congressional Republican advised the White House not to fire Rosenstein.
