London murder rate overtakes New York's

Well, damn. That sucks. In about a month I am headed to London for a year. What the f?!

London has had a pretty abysmal crime record of late. I used to have some coworkers in London who used to send me the crime blotter. Here is a screen capture of the site they used to share with me. It represents the total crimes committed within a 1 mile radius of the center of London, it gets worse in the outskirts.

I figured this maneuver to disarm the public from carrying knives was coming... Too bad he hasn't realized that knife carrying murderers don't usually follow the laws.

No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.

The point being missed here is the incredible achievement of New York in reducing their murder rate by a hundredfold and more over just a couple of decades. In 1990 there were 2500 murders a year, now they are down to only double London's annual rate.

Crime rate by weapons has been trending down in many major big cities across the US. I doubt it is because of tougher gun law so there's also that.

New York's annual rate is still double that of London's. And it's not even in the top 30 most murderous US cities.
