Los Alamitos, a small city in Orange County, voted last week to oppose California's "sanctuary" law. And now the county government is joining the backlash against the state policy, which prohibits local law enforcement from some cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday in a closed-door session to join the federal government in a lawsuit against California over the state law that went into effect in January.

Orange County joining the Federal government of its lawsuit on California. Excellent. The state was out of line and not only is the Federal government going to correct it, but so are the counties. Good on you Orange County.

Good on you, Blue State! That's the first rational response on the topic posted by a self proclaimed "Very Liberal". Nancy will pull your "Liberal Card".

We need to get those swarthy types out of the country to make America great again, and this is a small, very small first step.

If a state or local government doesn’t want to use their resources to assist the feds that should be their prerogative. Likewise, if a state or local government does want to assist that should be their prerogative. If Orange County wants to assist the feds then the state shouldn’t be able to punish them for it.

But then, for the most part, I think governmental power should be as localized as possible.

I'm not so onboard with this prerogative thing. If we left it as that in say voting to states on how to qualify voters do you think the south would greet black voters with open arms???. How about marriage licenses??? Should that be left to as local a governmental power as say county level???

Seems to me if a state passes a law on immigration cooperation that doesn't actively block the federal agencies from doing their job (and no state law requires that) the counties don't have the power to defy state law.

This will be interesting... :peace

Isn't Orange County the reddest county in California?

Not by a long shot. The demographics have shifted in recent decades such that it isn't largely lily white and Republican like it used to be. Orange County voted for Hillary 51% to The Donald's 43.4%. I would say the reddest county in California is Lassen County in Northern California, which voted 72.7% for Trump. (Incidentally, Lassen County is about 73% white.)

Why would you let those swarthy criminals off?

Does darker skin make people immune to the law?

It seems you ask a lot of ignorant questions, and that is very virtuous.

MAGA!
