Fact check: Trump says spending bill starts work on his border wall. It doesn't.

President Donald Trump said Friday that work on his border wall would start as soon as Monday, thanks to the $1.6 billion in border security funding included in the government spending bill he reluctantly signed.

“We’re going to be starting the work literally on Monday, on not only some new wall — not enough, but we’re working on that — but also fixing existing walls and existing fences,” Trump told reporters on Friday at an event to announce the bill signing.

The money earmarked for border security can be used only to repair and build previously approved fencing, not the Great Wall of Ghengis Trump.

There was quite a bit more fence/wall that was approved (in 2006?) but that has never been funded or built. Of course, building a 30' high Great Wall of Trump costs a lot more per running foot than building a (previously) standard border barrier.

journalists covering trump have a rule. If the WH denies something is happening it will happen. If Trump says something will happen, it probably won't.
 
And, did Trump make Mexico come up with the 1.6 billion?

I wonder just what the final cost will actually be, if the Great Wall of Trump is actually completed? I suppose we may never know.

But, as long as Mexico is footing the bill, what does it matter to us?

Usually you need to double anything governmental estimate for real costs.
Cold day before Mexico pays, nor should they just because we say so.
