WASHINGTON — The U.S. Justice Department announced charges Friday against nine Iranians in what federal officials said was one of the largest state-sponsored computer hacking campaigns ever prosecuted by American authorities.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the nine stole data from more than 140 U.S. universities, 30 American companies and five government agencies, as well as more than 176 universities in 21 other countries.

If I had to draw up a list of those countries most likely to be hacking our country & institutions, Iran would be near the top of the list.

You'd think that with all our cyber sophistication we would have long since armored our cyber infrastructure to prevent or at least minimize this type of theft & interference into critical infrastructure such as the power grid.

Given the ones charged are in Iran, the charges end up being a symbolic PR move more than anything else. But still a good thing to call them out for it!

why is the big bully US always screaming the victim card?
